this one was pretty slow in the beginning but it picked up and the ending broke my heart

After two plot-heavy volumes, we get more of a breather: wrapping up the previous struggles and setting up new ones, a great deal of foreshadowing, and the first major death. Some of the biggest laughs and - especially - cries in the series up until this point.

I never bought Alphonse's existential crisis. It came rather out of nowhere, and the entire premise seemed to conflict heavily with the laws of alchemy established so far. How could Ed have come up with the whole wealth of a young life, thoughts and emotions and memories, all on his own? It made little sense. The anime deals with the former issue, establishing it better and letting it carry on for a while longer, but it still felt rather out there.

For that matter, the anime also gives more screentime for Hughes: his death makes an even bigger impact there. It's still pretty sad, though.

(Chapters 13-16) Wow, this volume really started off! The soul armor that Ed was fighting with got killed by Envy. Also Envy and Lust started attacking Ed while his autodial arm broke! Al got really convinced that he was just made up by Al. I feel bad for Al because he's young and just doesn't know what to think. Ed and Winry managed to knock some sense into Al and they made up. Winry though, was called in to fix Ed, and boy was she mad! Colonel Mustang and Lieutenant Colonel Hughes are still trying to find Scar. Meanwhile though Lieutenant Colonel Hughes let's Winry stay with his family. I felt like if I were in the FMA world, Hughes would be the nicest character. King Bradley shows up and asks everyone to keep a low profile because the enemy (Scar) is around and they don't want information getting out. Lieutenant Hughes is attacked by Lust but survives. I felt worried for him because he's such a nice character, and I don't want him to die!...........NOO HE ENDS UP DYING!! Hughes gets killed by Envy, who disguised himself as Hughes wife! Ugh it was just horrible reading about Hughes funeral, I really liked him! Scar got attacked by Gluttony, Lust and this National Alchemist dude. He survived, and wakes up in the Ishval (that's what race Scar is) camp. Wow, a lot happened in these four chapters!

Oh wow, this one hit hard. When an author manages to make you feel all the feels, from laugh out loud to cry actual tears, you know you're reading the good stuff. And I can tell you, this is the good stuff.

Envy y Lust dejan vivir a Edward, al menos de momento, aunque lo hieren gravemente. Así mismo, Alphonse se queda pensando en lo que uno de los contrincantes le dijo y eso lleva a que se pelee con su hermano mayor.

Ahora, en general no me molesta que ocurran estas escenas donde hace falta la comunicación pues de alguna forma creo que la relación de hermanos es muy real, es decir, no siempre todo es miel sobre hojuelas. Lo cierto es que ninguno de los dos lo tiene fácil. Ambos son adolescentes (con todo y que sus habilidades sobrepasan a muchos otros) pero al final de cuentas son su único apoyo moral.

En la segunda mitad del volumen ocurre una tragedia pues uno de los personajes entrañables resulta víctima de aquellos que están cazando alquimistas.

Ahora bien, creo que desde inició el manga, ha sido la primera vez que se ve algo un poco más serio (ejemplo: el funeral y cómo afecta a Roy Mustang y los demás a su cargo). La comedia aligera mucho la carga a escenas fuertes pero a veces también hace que pierda su impacto.

Si soy honesta, mi favorito es Alphonse, aunque Edward también es genial. FMA me ha entretenido lo suficiente para continuar con la serie.
