In my desperate pursuit of a good night's sleep, I abandoned my Nguigi wa Thiong'o novel. As Em put it, "Is there any great African literature that's not about war or hunger or political corruption?" And, just as I did after Mom left, I delved into some children's books. This was exactly what I remembered it being like when I read it at the age of 8 and more.


I can't express it better than Eudora Welty did. She said, "What the book is about is friendship on earth, affection and protection, adventure and miracle, life and death, trust and treachery, pleasure and pain, and the passing of time. As a piece of work it is just about perfect, and just about magical in the way it is done." The simplicity and profoundness of children's books often have a unique charm. They can touch our hearts and remind us of the纯真 and美好 in life. In those quiet moments of reading, we can escape from the hustle and bustle of the adult world and find a peaceful haven within the pages of a book.

I simply could not hold back my tears. After I finished reading it, I actually had tears welling up in my eyes. Charlotte was truly a sweetheart. And Wilbur's innocence made him appear even cuter.

These lines truly made me break down: "She was in a class by herself. It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both."

This is one of the best stories of friendship that I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

I watched the movie today, and it is undoubtedly one of the best movies ever made. I cried like a baby at the end of the movie. The movie is probably just as good as the book. It has now entered my all-time favorite movie list. I was completely captivated by the beautiful friendship between Charlotte and Wilbur, both in the book and in the movie. The story touched my heart deeply and left a lasting impression on me.

Charlotte's Web by E.B. White is truly a children's classic.

One of the themes of my book club for September is Banned Classics, and this is the book that was chosen.

The story centers around the beautiful friendship between Wilbur, a runt pig who is unfortunately destined for slaughter, and Charlotte, a kind and intelligent spider. Through Charlotte's ingenious use of web-spun words, she manages to save Wilbur's life and also imparts to him the valuable lessons of friendship, sacrifice, and the cycle of life.

Over the years, Charlotte's Web has been banned due to its themes that revolve around death and talking animals. Some people have argued that the concept of death is too mature for young readers, while others have had issues with the idea of animals being able to talk.

However, I couldn't care less what ignorant people say. I read this book as a child, my children have read it, and I've even read it to my grandchildren. It is a wonderful and important book that should not be banned. Please support banned books and let the magic of stories like Charlotte's Web continue to touch the hearts of generations to come.

One Liner: So beautiful!

A little girl named Fern lives with her family on a farm. When her father decides to kill the weakest runt, Fern rescues and adopts him. This runt, Wilbur, grows up to be a shy and sweet pig, befriending other animals on the farm. When Wilbur's fate is in jeopardy, his best friend, Charlotte the spider, resolves to save him at any cost.

The story is told from an omnipresent point of view.

My Thoughts:

I had heard much about this book but had never read it (or watched the movie). Recently, I discovered a secondhand copy at a book fair and purchased it. Well, there's no reason to wait any longer, is there?

Although the book undoubtedly belongs to Charlotte, I must mention Fern, the little girl who gives Wilbur a second chance at life. She is an adorable sweetheart, full of sweetness and sensitivity. Her love for Wilbur is evident almost throughout. Even when she'sells' Wilbur to her uncle, she makes sure to visit him and spend as much time as possible with her beloved pet.

From the very beginning, she is such a cute and innocent pet parent. She feeds Wilbur milk from a bottle, lets him sleep in her doll's pram when he's tired, and claps and cheers at his antics in the barn.

Wilbur's social circle expands after he moves to Fern's uncle's barn. He makes new friends with the geese, gander, cows, sheep, and, of course, Charlotte. Still, he loves Fern and misses her when she can't visit due to bad weather. After all, she is the only parent he has known!

Now, Charlotte is the queen and hero of the book. Why not? She is the best! However, I would say she is like Fern but smarter, despite her small size. Both Charlotte and Fern adopt Wilbur in their own ways. That little piggy surely awakened their protective instincts!

Avery is another entertaining addition. I couldn't help but wonder how today's parents would react to his mischievous behavior. The boy had a lovely, carefree farm life, that much I can say. Here, I must also mention Dr. Dorian, who has a wonderful perspective.

The dialogues are extremely enjoyable, especially the repetitions. Kids will surely love it! The ending is a bit sad but still heartwarming. The illustrations are also great!

In conclusion, Charlotte's Web is a beautiful story about a little piggy who becomes a beloved pet to a young girl and then to a spider with a brave heart and a clever mind. It's a tale that will touch the hearts of readers of all ages.

I feel an overwhelming sense of satisfaction that I finally picked up this book, which had been sitting on my to-be-read list for years!

I truly believe I chose the perfect moment (as of 11th April 2020) to embark on this literary journey. I had attempted to read it at least four times before within a two-year span, but for some reason, it never quite clicked.

Initially, I had the impression that it would be a simple children's fiction, filled with charming pictures of animals and the little girl's family on the cover.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by the way it masterfully wove an unforgettable tale of various animals with unique personalities, all living together in a barn and sharing the joys and sorrows of life.

This book offers profound insights into understanding children from their perspective and provides valuable information about animals. Charlotte the spider, one of the main characters, is undoubtedly one of the greatest nonhuman fictional characters of all time. Wilbur the pig, who was almost abandoned at birth for being the weakest, Templeton the rat with his infamous catty remarks, and the geese family that always speaks the truth and adds entertainment to the story - all these characters are brought to life in a way that is both engaging and informative.

The way the author has written these characters and integrated information about the animals into the story is not at all tedious, as is often the case in many children's books. This book is not only entertaining but also a joy to read. It is filled with emotions that will tug at your heartstrings, and it concludes beautifully.

You won't believe it, but I actually shed tears towards the end of the book. The story feels so real and touching. A good book is a good book, regardless of its intended audience.

I am truly grateful that I finally had the opportunity to read this wonderful book.

I never read this when I was a child.

Looking back, it's quite a pity that I missed out on this wonderful piece of literature during my childhood years.

However, I'm extremely happy that I finally had the opportunity to read it as an adult.

As I delved into the pages, I was transported to a whole new world, filled with vivid characters and captivating storylines.

It was like uncovering a hidden treasure that had been waiting for me all this time.

The experience of reading it as an adult gave me a different perspective and a deeper appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the work.

A Goodreads friend recently provided a review of the book, and it truly piqued my interest, making me eager to reread it myself. I'm so glad that I did. As I approached the end, vivid memories flooded back of how much I cried as a kid during my first reading, especially when Charlotte and Wilbur had to make those lifelong promises. I think it was the very first time I can recall being deeply moved by a book. It was the moment when I first witnessed the beauty of friendships and understood how wonderful it could be if one opened oneself up to new people while still maintaining humility. Since humility is a highly cherished quality in Korean culture, this book held a special significance for me. It helped me feel understood and filled me with hope during a time when I had no friends.

As an adult, I have developed a profound love for Wilbur's innocence. I also found it incredibly sweet that Fern had the ability to talk to all the animals, a trait that seemed exclusive to children. This, of course, is a common theme that has贯穿 the history of literature.

It was a quick and delightful read. I keep stating, "This book will be the last for 2024." Well, two books after my initial proclamation, perhaps this will indeed be the final one for 2024.

I feel like I've heard the title "Charlotte's Web" all my life. However, I never got around to reading it nor did I know what it was truly about. In fact, I had this misconception that the main character was a girl named Charlotte and not a spider. I even thought this story might be similar to "Matilda".

But boy, was I in for a pleasant surprise! When I finally decided to pick up the book and read the actual story, I was completely hooked. It turned out to be such a wonderful and heartwarming children's book.

The author's ability to bring the characters and the barnyard setting to life is truly remarkable. I found myself rooting for Wilbur, the little pig, and being amazed by Charlotte's kindness and ingenuity.

This book not only tells a great story but also teaches important lessons about friendship, loyalty, and the cycle of life. It's a book that both children and adults can enjoy and learn from. I'm so glad I finally read "Charlotte's Web" and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great read.

May I say that this book is truly one of the most tender and cute that my daughter and I have ever read. She is 10 years old, and we still cherish the moments when we read together just before bedtime. It's a precious time for us.


We were deeply touched by the precious friendship between Charlotte and Philbert the pig. The way they respected each other and found joy in the small events and things they encountered during the days was truly heartwarming. Charlotte's role as a mom, friend, and guide to Philbert was not only lovely but also very emotional. Her actions and words left a lasting impression on us.


The legacy that Charlotte leaves to her friend pig is new lives to protect at any cost. This shows the depth of their friendship and the importance of protecting each other's memories. We also really loved the description of the farm's life and how all the other animals interacted with each other. It added another layer of charm to the story.
