The second part is larger than the first one, less funny, and less intercultural. It shifts from the relationships between France and Britain (or England) to the relationships between men and women (or women and men?). There was suddenly a bit too much of that there, and the author even expels some characters too radically.

This change in focus might have been an interesting experiment, but it didn't quite land as well as the first part. The intercultural aspect was one of the strengths of the initial section, and its reduction in the second part left something to be desired.

Additionally, the way some characters were disposed of seemed rather abrupt and perhaps not fully developed. It would have been nice to see a more nuanced exploration of the relationships between the sexes, rather than such a radical approach.

Overall, while the second part had its moments, it didn't quite measure up to the promise of the first.

The second book in this series is truly just a pleasant and light-hearted piece of fluff.

The main character, to be honest, is a bit of an arse. In real life, there's a high probability that I would intensely dislike him. However, despite this, the story was still a fun ride.

The plot had its twists and turns that kept me engaged from start to finish. It was an enjoyable escape from reality for a while.

And now, I find myself looking forward to reading the next book in this series at some point in the future. I'm curious to see what new adventures and developments await the characters.

Overall, while the main character may not be the most likable, the book as a whole was an entertaining read that left me with a positive impression.

I picked this up on my recent trip to Washington.

It's a fascinating story about a British man who embarks on adventures while living in France with French women and attempts to set up a British tea salon.

There were several moments in the narrative that were so hilarious that I literally burst out laughing. It was a bit embarrassing, especially when I was waiting for my plane to board at the airport.

I do believe that people who aren't familiar with French might not fully understand all the jokes. After all, since this was written by a British guy, I felt as if I needed a British to American English Dictionary to translate all the British words.

Here's a useful tip - just like the French, the British use the word "courgette" for zucchini. The same goes for "aubergine", which means eggplant. I think this knowledge will be helpful when reading the story.

All in all, it's a very funny read that kept me entertained throughout my journey.

The article delves into a novel that focuses on relationships, encounters, and the author's angst about women. Written with a sharp comedic wit, the author shares his experiences (through the character named "Paul") with women and his pursuit of love. All this while he tries to establish an English tea room in the heart of gay Paree.

I believe the target audience is straight American and British men. While I found some parts a bit offensive, it's hard to deny that it realistically portrays the male psyche. There's a recurring topic of the alleged mutual distrust and dislike between the French and Brits. As an American, I can attest that within our cultural context, it's commonly assumed that the French are cultural elitists who snub outsiders. In British culture, they view the French similarly. At least, that's what this book seems to suggest. The author seems to perceive certain French people as experts in things that are done more sloppily and unstylishly in Britain, with some exceptions like Benoit, an adolescent employee he deems "a drip."

Stephen Clarke continues to depict the Anglo-French misadventures.

It's a great breather, but his relationships really annoy me.

The portrayal of the (bad)habits of the English and the French is better.

He seems to have a knack for highlighting the cultural differences and the humorous situations that arise from them.

The story unfolds in a light-hearted manner, making it an enjoyable read.

However, I do wish that the characters' relationships were developed more deeply.

Sometimes, they seem a bit one-dimensional.

Overall, though, it's a fun and engaging book that offers a unique perspective on Anglo-French relations.

Merde Actually is Stephen Clarke’s second novel.

It tells the story of Paul West, a Brit who has been living in France for a year. Despite this time, he still grapples with significant questions regarding the cultural differences.

The novel humorously depicts the absurd ups and downs of Paul's love life and his attempts to establish an English tearoom in Paris. It takes readers to the French countryside, where Paul encounters his terrifying mother-in-law and finds himself picking courgettes instead of enjoying quality time with his girlfriend Florence. The adventure continues on the île de Ré, where he is unceremoniously kicked out of the house by his father-in-law. Talk about a disaster!

Paul's love life is like a wild rollercoaster. After parting ways with Florence, he realizes he still has strong feelings for his ex-girlfriend Alexa. He gets into numerous awkward yet highly comical situations that prove the power of love. After yet another bout of bad luck, or as he calls it, "merde," he decides to return to London to win back Alexa's heart. This, however, brings a host of cultural issues as he now views everything through Parisian eyes.

Merde Actually is a reference to the film comedy Love Actually. The novel is especially interesting for those who have always wondered about the main differences between the UK and France. For linguists, there are some French words included, adding to its allure. Stephen Clarke manages to approach the tense cultural and social relations between the two countries in a light and humorous way. It is truly a novel worth reading!

This book is almost as enjoyable as the first one in the series.

However, it really disappoints due to the countless spelling mistakes. There are errors in both English and French words.

It makes one wonder if anyone bothers to proofread ebooks before hitting the publish button.

It's quite frustrating as these errors can disrupt the reading experience.

Despite its entertainment value, the presence of so many spelling errors detracts from the overall quality of the book.

One would expect a certain level of professionalism and attention to detail in the publishing process.

Hopefully, future editions will address these issues and provide a more polished reading experience for the readers.

I started off with a really good belly laugh right at the beginning. It was that kind of laughter that just takes over and makes your whole body shake.

However, as I got about halfway through, something strange happened. My interest just seemed to fade away. I don't know if it was because the story started to drag or if my mind just wandered off.

Maybe it was a combination of both. But whatever the reason, I found myself no longer fully engaged. Instead of eagerly waiting to see what would happen next, I was kind of just going through the motions.

It was a bit disappointing because I had been so excited at the start. But sometimes that's just how it goes. You never know when your interest might suddenly wane.

There are far too many grammatical errors in this text. The first book was truly funny, captivating the readers with its humor. However, in this particular book, the main character, Paul, makes an excessive effort to be funny. He seems to be straining every nerve to crack jokes and be witty. But unfortunately, his attempts completely fall flat. It's as if he is trying too hard to force the laughter out of the readers, rather than letting the humor flow naturally. As a result, the overall reading experience is marred, and the book fails to live up to the expectations set by the first one.
