I must say that I was truly not anticipating the early Archie comics to contain such a plethora of gags related to suicide and murder. It's quite astonishing, really. There doesn't seem to be anything that is truly subversive or overly sophisticated within these pages. However, every now and then, amidst the classic Archie insipidity, there are moments that are genuinely funny. It's almost as if these rare moments of humor manage to shine through the otherwise rather tame and unremarkable nature of the comics. It makes one wonder about the minds behind these creations and what they were thinking when they included such unexpected and somewhat dark elements in what is typically considered a lighthearted and innocent series.
A really fun book is available that features some of the earliest Archie comics. These comics are a true delight to read, filled with the charming and endearing characters that have become so beloved over the years. The stories are full of adventure, humor, and heart, taking readers back to a simpler time. The artwork is also a treat, with its bright colors and classic style. Whether you're a long-time fan of Archie or new to the series, this book is sure to provide hours of entertainment. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the wonderful world of Archie comics!
I have a deep love for old school comics, and Archie holds a special place among my favorites!!!! This collection features truly fantastic color artwork and highly entertaining storylines. Just as the title implies, it offers a wonderful slice of Americana as it was in the 1940s. It is extremely interesting to observe the way each character was dressed and styled. Although Jughead pretty much remains the same. I have been making great efforts to find more installments of this collection. (I also possess Vol. 1 of the 1950s). However, finding compilations of non-anime comics or non-manga comics is becoming increasingly rare, especially in print form. Archie is best enjoyed in print, as digital forms always encounter severe format and layout problems when displaying panel art. It's a pity that the availability of such print compilations is dwindling. I really hope that more people can discover and appreciate the charm of Archie comics in their original print form.
