A falta de una reseña más amplia, comentaré que, hasta el cuarto capítulo, estaba convencido de otorgarle 4 estrellas; sobre todo por la dinámica de la narración y las características del pueblo en que se localiza. Pero el quinto y último capítulo, me ha conquistado definitivamente, con esa apelación magistral al destino y a la implacable fatalidad.
Por algo Garcia Márquez era un maestro y esta una de sus obras más emblemáticas, con su peculiar estructura donde desde el principio el lector asiste a la crónica de lo que va a ocurrir.

Mi escritor colombiano favorito, Gabriel García Márquez, publicó en 1981 “Crónica de una muerte anunciada”. Estamos ante uno de los libros más conocidos de Gabo, una especie de reconstrucción e investigación periodística que mezcla opiniones con declaraciones de los testigos de un crimen. Tuve el placer de descubrir al autor cuando era una adolescente con esta joya de la literatura pero con el transcurrir de los años se fue desdibujando de mi mente hasta que por fin he tenido el placer de revivirla en esta segunda y ansiada relectura.

Narrada en primera persona, la historia se sitúa en un pequeño pueblo en la costa del Caribe, nos explica los hechos que sucedieron antes, durante y después de un brutal homicidio, el que acaba con la vida de Santiago Nasar. Este es un joven vecino que será perseguido por los hermanos Vicario que buscan cobrar venganza, pues su hermana, recién casada y descubierta, culpa a Nasar de haber sido el causante de que no haya llegado virgen al matrimonio. La cuestión es que horas antes de haberse cometido el asesinato, todo el pueblo sabe lo que los hermanos traen entre manos y nadie es capaz de evitarlo a pesar de que siempre guardas ese chispa de esperanza.

En esta obra, a pesar de ser breve, nos encontraremos con una gran cantidad de personajes, tal y como nos tiene acostumbrados Márquez. El escritor sorprende empezando la novela por su final, continúa, sin seguir ningún orden cronológico, saltando en el tiempo y en los maravillosos testimonios de los diferentes personajes. Dotando al texto de un lenguaje que potencia la violencia narrada explícitamente en el libro, el autor nos sumerge en una narración dura, brutal y con algunas escenas escalofriantes. Pero también hallaremos su tono irónico y humorístico habitual, denuncia contra el machismo y un recorrido emotivo por la vida de todos sus protagonistas.

Los temas principales que hallaremos son el honor, la venganza, un choque entre la casualidad y el destino, la superstición de los pueblos y sin duda la violencia. En este rompecabezas tampoco faltaran unas magistrales descripciones, abundantes diálogos, todo ello con un registro directo y en ocasiones coloquial. El toque de realismo mágico, pequeño pero siempre presente, me ha encantado, siempre le otorga un toque especial sus historias. Lo que me ha resultado bastante curioso es que nunca conocemos al narrador, no sabemos su nombre, aunque sí conocemos los lazos que lo unen a los mencionados en el escrito.

En definitiva, esta corta novela mantiene en vilo al lector durante toda su lectura a pesar de conocer perfectamente su conclusión desde el principio. La impotencia que sientes ante la injusticia que vives en esta obra, es realmente lo que persiste en tus pensamientos una vez terminada, pero es que además te golpea tan duramente con sus descripciones, que irremediablemente visualizas todas y cada una de las escenas escabrosas que tiene. Una narración que sigue conquistándome y que tiene una calidad admirable en todos los sentidos. Pocos autores pueden decir que tienen la capacidad de escribir novelas tan breves con tanta cantidad de información, sin dejar de lado una trama alucinante y original con un final que encoge el corazón.

I read this short masterpiece ages ago, but it only recently resurfaced in my mind, like a forgotten dream. It's a tense drama of murder foretold, written in the magical realism style for which Columbian novelist, Marquez, was lionised.
I really need to read it again to reacquaint myself with its succulent excellence.
(Ditto, Don Quixote, and so many other exquisitely-written novels that are now consigned to the backroom of my cluttered mind).

I should start by confessing how Márquez's words have often flirted with me and I've fallen for his elongated, somewhat eccentric, prose style. In The Autumn of the Patriarch he took me on a satisfying and bewildering journey that secretly made me question his sanity. So I've come to expect that part-dizzying, part-dazzling style that makes this short work feel different, almost as if it was written by another Márquez, maybe a more controlled Márquez, but certainly not the same one who wrote One Hundred Years of Solitude.

Strangely, this book is more Márquez than the others. He had a friend who was murdered because he supposedly "deflowered" a woman (there are so many thoughts running through my head with the oddity of this, but I won't linger on the inhumanity of people). Since the victim's mother was a close friend, Márquez's mother didn't want him to use his journalistic skills and conduct narrative nonfiction or investigative reporting. In the end, he decided to explore his grief and conundrum through this work of fiction.

I can't remember a book I've read where in the first paragraph, the author tells me the character will be murdered, and yet there is still tension to drive the rest of the scene for me. With the complex and circular story structure, one is gracefully introduced to the dead Santiago Nasar, one nods at his killers, one meets the strange and mysterious groom,Bayardo San Roman, (who as it turns out is not really mysterious after all, maybe only an outsider searching for love) but one never truly understands Angela Vicario, the woman at the center of it all.

She only took the time necessary to say the name. She looked for it in the shadows, she found it at first sight among the many, many easily confused names from this world and the other, and she nailed it to the wall with her well-aimed dart, like a butterfly with no will whose sentence has always been written.

Sure, the mystery is never truly solved because in real life, there was always lingering doubts. But storytelling maneuverability is something one can always lean on in a Márquez novel. I enjoyed reading this story that manipulates time and place, where characters are developed in such artful ways that the years slip by within two to five pages and I'm so enchanted that I don't notice how much these characters have changed, until later. Yet there is so much to be saddened by, so many people to feel pity for; each character seems to be the victim of the kind of conformity that strangles and butchers and turns good into evil. As in most of his novels, Márquez investigates the ways of an entire community, a culture, a country; he elucidates absurdities that lurk in common ways of thinking and the story seems to not only seek answers for the crime, but answers to the bafflement of complacency that allows murder without someone having the decency to say enough.

Truth in the title: the title tells us exactly the plot of the novel.

A man is stabbed to death. He’s a fairly wealthy young man (he’s 21) who runs a cattle ranch inherited from his father. There’s an interesting ethnic twist: His father’s family speaks Arabic at home and his family's housekeeper on occasion calls him “white man.” Although the locals call his family ‘Turks,’ because they are Catholic, it’s likely they were Lebanese and arrived in Colombia (where the story is set) from the great mixing and melting pot of the Caribbean.



The title tells us all we need to know and very early on in the story we know why he was killed, so I’m not giving away any plot. Another wealthy man in town has just had the most extravagant wedding ever seen in the town. But the next morning the bridegroom ‘returns the bride’ to her family because she has been deflowered by the young man who will then be killed by her two brothers.

The day of the murder the brothers make no secret of their intentions. They wander around town telling people what they intend to do. By mid-morning just about everyone in town has heard them say they will kill him.

So why is nothing done? Everyone has an excuse. There’s a big commotion in town because the bishop is coming by riverboat to wave at folks and give the town a blessing. So even the priest thinks ‘this is a criminal matter that doesn’t concern me.' Most folks assume it’s just ‘drunk talk.' The mayor has the police chief take away their hog butchering knives when they are seen sharpening them. (But they have plenty of knives.) Also it’s assumed they are talking to so many folks that someone will stop them --- and maybe they want to be stopped.



The story is told retrospectively from almost 30 years later. A fascinating read that under the author’s masterful writing, makes the entire story perfectly plausible. “We killed him openly,” Pedro Vicario said, "but we’re innocent.”

A good read.

Initially i gave this book 4 stars, but last night it got me thinking and a book that makes me think and prevents me to sleep deserves a 5 star in my book.
This is the story of Santiago Nasar's murder. This literally is a story of an Appointment with Death. Despite almost everybody in the village knowing that Santiago is going to be killed, whether through ignorance, superstition, lies or malice (lets face it Santiago isn't a very nice guy) his death could not be prevented.

Este escritor é sui generis, como tal é quase uma obrigação lê-lo.

O jeito peculiar de contar uma história como se de um puzzle se tratasse, que do desconstruído vai juntando as peças, de uma forma mais ao menos aleatória, colorindo as suas gentes, os lugares, as crenças, formando um quadro tão curioso como único, é brutal.

A injustiça contida na justiça, a mentalidade primitiva levada ao cúmulo, a inoperância por tantas e diversas razões irrazoáveis, o predestinado e fatídico acontecimento... LEIAM!

إنهـا حقـًا قصـة موت معلـن .. وربمـا تكـون الوحيـدة !
جريمـة قتـل علـم الجميـع أنهـا ستحـدث .. القاتـل والمقتـول وأهالـى البلـدة والشرطـة والعمـدة وراهـب الكنيسـة ومـع ذلك حدثـت !

لعـل ما يميـز ماركيـز هو قـدرته الهائلـة على خلـق عدد كبيـر من الشخصيـات ، لكـل منهـم عالمـه وصفاتـه وخصائصـه التى تميـزه عـن غيـره ونسـج كــل هـذا فى بنـاء مُحكـم من الأحـداث المشوقـة..

الغـريب أنك ستشعـر أنه يفعـل كـل هـذا دون مجهـود منـه ! توغلـه وترسخـه ومعرفتـه الكاملـة بالمجتمـع الكولومبـى يعطيانـه مَلكَـة هائلـة ومقـدرة غيـر طبيعيـة على الابـداع.. وهـو نفـس ما يميـّز العملاق المصـرى نجيب محفـوظ الذى كـان خبيـرًا لا يشق له غبـار بالمجتمع المصـرى ولطالمـا كتب عنـه وخلده فى رواياتـه ..

بمعنى آخـر ، يمكننـى أن أقـول أن نجيب محفـوظ هو ماركيزنـا .. أو ماركيـز هو نجيبهـم !

الجـديـد هنـا أن الروايـة تُروى بطريقـة ال Vantage Point ... فالحكايـة نفسهـا تُروى أكثـر من مـرة بمنظـور يختلـف من شخصيـة لأخـرى.. ربمـا إذا شاهـدت الفيلم الذى يحمل نفس اسم الطريقـة ستعـرف عمـا أتحـدث.

الصراحة الرواية كانت مفاجأة غير متوقعة ..مفاجأة حلوة أكيد:)

تدور أحداث الرواية في كولومبيا و هي تروي قصة حقيقية عن إغتيال رجل اسمه سنتياغو نصار علي يد التوأمين فيكاريو بسبب جريمة شرف...
من أول سطر في الرواية و أنت تعلم إن سانتياغو نصار سيقتل وتعلم من سيقتله وكأن الكاتب بدأ الرواية من النهاية...
مش بس إنت كقارئ كنت تعلم إنه سيقتل ولكن القرية كلها كانت تعلم أيضاً ومع ذلك بعضهم لم يصدق و البعض الآخر حاول تحذيره ولكن بعد فوات الآوان...

علي الرغم إن عنصر التشويق تقريباً مش موجود في الرواية إلا إنك حتلاقي نفسك مش قادر تسيبها إلي أن تصل إلي مشهد النهاية اللي أقل ما يقال عنه إنه كان مكتوب بعبقرية..
مشهد مستحيل تقدر تنساه و من روعة الوصف فيه حتحس إنك شايفه قدامك ومش مجرد كلام مكتوب علي ورق!

تقييمي للرواية كان ٣ نجوم وذلك لوجود تفاصيل كتير في كل الرواية كان ممكن الإستغناء عنها ولكن مشهد النهاية بالنسبة لي و طريقة كتابة الرواية كلها يخليني أرفع التقييم من ٣ إلي ٤ ويخليني كمان أتعلم إن مهماً كانت ليا تجارب سيئة مع أي كاتب ممكن رواية واحدة تخليني أرجع أحبه وأحاول معاه مرة تانية:)

Es exactamente lo que dice el título.

En cierta manera me ha recordado a "A sangre fría", porque hace una crónica de unos hechos que, en esencia, ocurrieron. Pero mientras "A sangre fría" es no ficción, esta novela es ficción. Y lo curioso es que García Márquez imita tan bien la forma de crónica, que a veces parece ser más "no ficción" que la novela de Capote.

Hay personas a quienes les pareció aburrido, a mí no. Hay quienes no soportan el estilo de García Márquez, no es mi caso. A mí me ha parecido una novela muy sólida, que hace una radiografía de una población pequeña (que en cierta manera podría representar la sociedad colombiana) donde las costumbres, la religión y el machismo crean un cóctel muy peligroso. Al final, García Márquez parece querer decir que ese crimen ocurrió porque el mundo está lleno de gente que "Pasa de follones" (conocidos como "padefos"), de personas que agachan la cabeza, se encogen de hombros y pasan la responsabilidad a cualquiera en vez de asumirla ellos mismos. Al final, ocurre porque nadie lo impide. Todos son, de alguna manera, responsables. Tal vez no culpables, pero sí responsables.

Siempre he pensado que el fuerte de García Márquez no es la trama, sino la construcción del universo, así que sus relatos más cortos siempre me gustan más. No es la novela suya que más me gusta, pero me ha gustado.

قدرٌ احمق الخطى...

- اعتقد ان ماركيز ارهقته هذه القصة فأراد التخلّص من هذا الأرق والوجع الذي يعتريه فقام بكتابة القصة ومشاركتها مع الجميع ليوّزع الألم ويخفف عن نفسه! وبذلك تكون الكتابة ليست لتخليد الشخصية المروي عنها بل للتخلص من الجراحات ومحاولة تقطيبها وطيّها من صفحات الذاكرة الشخصية بنقلها الى الذاكرة الجمعية للإنسانية جمعاء!

- القصة ليست قصّة تشويق او فيلم بوليسي، فماركيز من العنوان والصفحات الأولى يخبرك بالزبدة: قتل سانتياغو نصّار! لكنه لاحقاً يبدأ بنبش تفاصيل التفاصيل ويعرضها ويتساءل بشأنها وكيفية حصولها وتباطئ ردة الفعل والتمييع حتى "وقعت الفاس بالراس"! قد يصيب القارئ بعض الملل لكنه ملل التفاصيل الدقيقة التي يحتاج الكاتب اليها ليرسم المشهد الكبير ويريك اللافعل المفقود!

- "قصة موت معلن" كانت عن شخص تباطئ الناس في تحذيره وتباطئ هو نفسه بالحذر، قصة بين عدم تصديق ما يسمع وما يقوله لنفسه، قد تكون غريبة لكننا نشهدها اليوم وبشكل موسّع على دول بكاملها!!

"أعطني حكماً مسبقاً، أحرّك لك العالم."

Ya iba siendo hora de que me iniciara con Gabriel García Márquez, y mejor no ha podido ser ese comienzo. A través de las entrevistas que nuestro narrador realiza a los distintos vecinos de un pequeño pueblo, iremos reconstruyendo los hechos que terminaron con la muerte de Santiago Nasar a manos de los gémelos Pedro y Pablo Vicario.

Lo primero que sorprende de la novela es que empiece por el final. Nada más comenzar sabemos cual es el desenlace y poco a poco el autor nos irá construyendo la historia sin un orden cronológico establecido, pero donde las piezas irán encajado perfectamente. Es increíble que una novela consiga mantenerte en vilo todo el tiempo, aún sabiendo de entrada todo lo sucedido. Eso solo lo consiguen los grandes.

La atmósfera que crean las narraciones de los hechos por parte de los diferentes personajes es espectacular. Ese aura intrigante donde todo el pueblo sabía lo que iba a pasar salvo la propia víctima o su madre. Como muchos no le dan importancia, como otros eluden avisarlo a sabiendas de lo que ocurriría o como los pocos que lo quieren salvar no consiguen avisarlo, pese a que lo intenten. Se diría que su destino estaba fijado y que por más que el inminente asesinato estaba en boca de todos, nada podía hacerse contra lo que ya estaba escrito. Me ha flipado toda esa idea.

Pocas cosas tengo que decir ya del realismo mágico, porque venía sospechando que encajaba mucho conmigo, pero es que ya no es una sospecha. Me flipa completamente. Sobre todo hay una característica de este género que me encanta y he encontrado anteriormente en otros libros latinoamericanos: la naturalidad con la que los hechos se narran, independientemente de lo horrible que sean. En el caso de "Crónica de una muerte anunciada", la escena de la muerte de Salvador es tan realista, cruda y violenta que impacta muchísimo. Pero impacta aún más la naturalidad y la aparente frialdad con la que se va describiendo. ¡Increíble!

Hablar sobre la pluma de García Márquez sería algo muy temerario por mi parte, así que solo diré que me ha encantando su manera de contar las cosas. Cada palabra se me antojaba justa y precisa, no le falta ni le sobra nada. Además, cuando se habla de un autor de renombre, siempre me asalta el miedo de que resulte cargante o pesado. Nada más lejos de la realidad. Su prosa se lee de un tirón, pese a la profundidad que tiene. Un enorme ejemplo de que la pedantería no hace al escritor bueno.
Y este señor lo es y mucho.

En fin, que estoy deseando seguir leyendo la obra de García Márquez, porque tiene pinta de convertirse en uno de mis imprescindibles. Espero que en este 2021 caigan mínimos dos más, aunque es una pena que la obra de Gabriel García Márquez no sea especialmente extensa, o eso creo. En definitiva, que recomiendo a todas esas personas que le tengan cierto respeto a el autor, que se lo pierdan, porque no cuesta leerlo. Yo lo hice y ha merecido la pena.
