Speaker for the Dead was a much needed diversion. Somewhat of a divergence from Ender's Game, but it appropriately weaves Ender into the heart of the story. If you liked Ender's Game and want to know the next chapter of his story, you'll enjoy this.

It's been a while since I read this trilogy. The story is compelling, though I remember it being crazy philosophical at times. The books kept me guessing and things never turned out the way I expected (in a good way). I think they are too deep for me to pick and read through completely again, but I am glad I read it through once.

In my opinion, these books are not as good as Ender's Game, but they are also very interesting. It continues to bring up issues of 'the greater good', and show that what we see is not necessarily what is true.

(selected the wrong book, sorta - ment the Single Edition of Speaker Of The Dead, not this multi volume edition!!! - can I change that?)

(for Speaker Of The Dead)
rolled out of Ender's Game, right into this one, book 2 of the Ender Quintet/Ender Saga/Ender's Game series.
Not at ALL what I expected - although really, after the previous book and the ending in particular, I wasn't sure WHAT to expect really, and in retrospect, this is the perfect way to do it.
At the start I was a little troubled at the introduction first of a whole new set of characters , and ultimately, the book is primarily about them, For the first 3rd or so of the book Ender is simply a catalyst in the system, but its interesting to see how he becomes the primary character (well one of them) by 3'rd of the way through. It was also nice how the previous books event weren't referenced to constantly - especially considering how caustic to the main character they were.
[ I was going to put a synopsis here, but theres just too many things going on to make a short and sweet version of it thats not spoilerized - even the back cover doesn't do that.]

In short, I enjoyed it, and again, like the first book, finished it in maybe 3 sittings (all of which, again, kept me awake when I should have been sleeping). If you liked the first book, I think you will like this one, but its not something I think you might expect. Stick with it through the first 2 chapters, if you make it, I'm sure you will like the remainder.

On to Book Three: Xenocide!
(Perhaps I will just tack the reviews of the other volumes to this..)

maybe orsen scott card can be a bit cheesy but the man can write and he is insanely creative, even if there is a bit of a christian undertone

The rest of the Ender's game series takes a dramatic change from the original book - more detailed, more mystical, not quite as fast moving but still GOOD stuff.

I don't have the box set, I've just read two of the books mentioned in it: Speaker for the Dead and Xenocide. Of course, they were phenomenal!

I barely got through genocide. I could not finish Children of the Mind. It was worth about 0.00000000001 Stars. The other books were great though.

Slower than the prequal, Ender's Game, but still very well written, intricate, and thought out.
