I've always wondered how your breath can slam out of your lungs. After reading some 20+ books by Feehan, this is still a question that remains unanswered for me. I tried being surprised or excited and no breath slamming out of lungs happened. I even thought of asking The Boyfriend if this happens to him but he already looks at me funny after my last similar experimental question. So this regular feature in Feehan's books where the girl/guy kisses the guy/girl and n  "His breath slammed out of his lungs"n - still unexplained phenomenon.

That mystery aside, this book was very entertaining to me. It helped while away a boring Wednesday at work, and it was short enough that I went home and finished it right before another episode of CSI Miami. While this does fall into the paranormal category thanks to all the psychic fun going on, this was more a comedy for me. I laughed a lot. I don't think that was what Feehan intended. But more on that later.

Some good stuff first. There's a lot of scientific mumbo jumbo in this book. I say mumbo jumbo cause despite all my crime/paranormal TV education and that stuff they tried to teach me in college, not all of it made sense to me. But fascinating it most certainly was. See the blurb for more info. A scientist who manages to expand your mental powers into the psychic realm, and a daughter who serves as his inspiration and herself is an expert in the field. Aah Lily. As a woman you were mostly silly. As a scientist, you were awesome. This fact alone made me read the book faster than usual.

What Peter Whitney, Lily's father and scientist extraordinaire does may be morally wrong, but it made real good reading. He is experimenting on a bunch of special forces men to make them the ultimate military team, but things seem to be going awry (I could have said wrong, but I wanted to use awry. No one uses that word anymore). So he calls Lily for a second opinion. And thus her life changes - she's insanely attracted to the leader of the special forces team (who is kept in a cage, btw), she psychically sees her father being murdered, and other forces are at play who wants the secrets that her father died for. Oh and she herself is psychic.

Now a lil on the Hero of the hour, and this is the comedy part people. Explain to me who on earth talks like this in this day and age. A lot of the book had him speaking like this - either to himself or to her. I cannot picture this man being a ruthless killer with the special forces:

"I'm losing my sanity, Lily. I burn for you, day and night." The words were whispered against her open mouth. "It's not comfortable or pleasant, it hurts like hell. Put me out of my misery, honey. Help me, Lily. I can't think with wanting you."

The man is a leader of men and well, I don't think they knit scarves in the special forces. Yet all his mind was centered on was how she was way out of his class (Physically and financially. This thought came one page after he meets her for the first time and kept popping up for a while), whether she had something going on with Roger the guard, if he could hold her in his arms, if she had underwear on - most of this during what would otherwise be called life and death situations. Well, yeah, he was sweet as hell, and really good in bed, and a pretty good leader - you know all round alpha. But all this stupidity in his head was too funny for me.

All my silliness in this review aside, this was a real neat book. I liked all the scientific stuff, the H/H only wanted to get in each others pants but they were cute together, I liked their conversations, the supporting characters were developed enough that I could picture each of them and I'm eagerly waiting to read the next books on Kaden and Nico. You'll love Lily's extended family of Arly, Rosa and John. You'll also love the villains - in that they play their roles right and you want to slap them as all villains are intended to make you feel. There isn't much of a mystery in this book, you can tell from the beginning who's gonna be in the good and bad guy camps, but it makes fun reading anyway. Oh, also - the psychic stuff these guys can do is pretty neat too. I think I was supposed to mention that in the beginning. But I got sidetracked. I'm giving this one 4/5 for the entertainment it provided.

You know, I don’t think this review is gonna help anyone. But I typed it, so I'll post it

Now, I have read many paranormal romance novels by different authors, but I must admit that “Shadow Game,” the first book in Christine Feehan’s “Ghost Walker” series was the first time I had ever read any of Christine Feehan’s works! This is really surprising to me because even though I saw like a million books written by Christine Feehan at my local library, I never once thought about picking up any of her books and now I seriously wished I had!

Peter Whitney was a renowned scientist who was able to create an experiment that would help enhance the psychic abilities of an elite squadron in the military and his equally brilliant daughter Lily Whitney would help out on his accomplishments. One tragic day however, Peter Whitney starts to notice that something was going wrong with his experiments as the subjects in question, a group of soldiers who volunteered for this experiment which among them included Captain Ryland Miller, were suddenly dying of mysterious circumstances. When Peter Whitney discovered about who was sabotaging his experiments, he ends up being murdered before he was able to tell his daughter Lily everything about his experiments. Luckily, since Lily is a telepath herself, her father was able to communicate with her that she needs to check out the videos of his experiments in order to right the wrongs he had done in the past before he died. Now, Lily is determined to discover the dark secret of her father’s experiments while trying to figure out who murdered her father. But in order to learn more about his experiments, Lily has to try to release the soldiers who were being experimented on and there she meets the strong willed Captain Ryland Miller, who she immediately begins to fall in love with. Lily and Ryland will soon discover that there is more between them then just a telepathic attraction with each other as they discover the dark secrets of Peter Whitney’s experiments together.

Wow! I seriously cannot believe that I had not read any of Christine Feehan’s books before this one! Christine Feehan had done a brilliant job at writing this book as the relationships between each character felt so real and raw and I really enjoyed the bantering between the characters, especially between Ryland and Lily! I also loved the way that Christine Feehan managed to mix romance and action into this book as I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat trying to see if Lily and Ryland discovered who murdered Peter Whitney while developing feelings for each other. What I loved the most about this book were the characters themselves as they were interesting and fun to read about, especially Lily and Ryland! Lily Whitney was such a fantastic heroine as she is smart and courageous and I loved the fact that she was willing to put her life on the line in order to right the wrongs of her father and protect Ryland and his men. I also loved the fact that she has so much scientific knowledge about the experiments that her father was engaged in as it showed how she is willing to use her intelligence to help the people she cared about. Oh man, Captain Ryland Miller, you wicked devil, you! I have to seriously say that Captain Ryland Miller is one of my most favorite heroes ever as I loved the way that he cares about Lily and is willing to do everything in his power to protect her from harm. I also loved his bantering with Lily as I just cannot help but giggle and feel tingly inside whenever he is being so sexy towards her. One of my favorite quotes from this book is this:

n  “Your name is Lily Whitney. You are the woman I want at my side night and day. I want you to be the mother of my children someday. I want you for my lover. I want you for the person I turn to when the world gets to be too much.”n

For anyone who does not like language in a book, this book does have some language, although it is not as bad as some romance novels. Also, there are many scenes in this book where the characters are in danger of being murdered and that might be too intense for some people to handle.

Overall, “Shadow Game” is a truly fantastic read for fellow paranormal romance fans and I am definitely going to check out the rest of the “Ghost Walker” series!

I am a big fan of Chrsitine Feehan and love her other series and I now have a new series to look forward to.

This book is the start of a series about a team of elite psychic soldiers called the GhostWalkers. Each of the men have been recruited as elite in their field of the miltary and law enforcment and agree to have their natural psychic ability enhanced. The men are soon cruelly experimented on and exploited and men start dying suspiciously, as supposed side effects of the treatments. The leader of the men, our hero, Captain Ryland Miller realized this and he knows they have to escape. Then enters Dr Lily Whitney, the lead scientists daughter. As soon as they see eachhother they connect on a deep level, and when Lily sees how then men are being treated she helps them escape. The romance progresses between Lily and Ryland as they and the GhostWalkers try stop the men behind the scheme to sabotage the GhostWalker project. This is a very simplistic synopsis, but I would hate to give the good twists away.

The romance between Ryland and Lily is intense and emotional. Ryland has the best qualities of an alpha hero, protective, loyal and determined to win his womans love. Lily is also a good heroine, she is intelligent, compassionate and tough. There were also some very steamy sex scenes in this book, but it you could see what they feel for eachother making it more of an expression of what they feel then just gratitious sex.

The plot in this book was also very good, I wanted to know what was happening not just between Lily and Ryland, but also what was happening outside that, and how they were going to resolve it. And I can't wait to find out what happend in the next book and also see more of the other GhostWalkers. That was another element of the book I enjoyed, the other GhostWalkers, I liked seeing the interaction and banter between the men and seeing each indivduals personality.

This was written very much CF's writing style so I am guessing if you don't like any other of her books, you probably won't like this. However I like how she writes, it is always very vivid and emotional, you really go into the characters head in her books.

So I would recommend this book to others who have enjoyed her books as another one of her books with a good alpha hero and also a heroine that can hold her own.

I feel like I’m being generous with 2 stars on this one. Only because if all of the romance had been omitted it would have been a decent book. I hated Ryland within the first 3 chapters and it only got worse. Insecure jealousy, controlling and condescending anger, calling Lily pet names like Honey and Baby after knowing her less than a week
