This is the second book in this series of five and it captured me from page one. It's the alternate Peter Pan Series and is full of so much surprising things and of course danger. Each chapter ends with a cliffhanger which of course urges you to keep reading.

Yes, it is found in the children's section of the library, but will definitely hold any adults interest as well. Definitely one that you may find yourself wanting to not only read aloud with your family, but also one to just read it yourself (as I did, thanks to my middle grand who recommended the series to me.). I am ready to move onto the 3rd book (no doubt later today).

This book is written by both Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson.

I absolutely love the idea behind this series. Instead of retelling the old version of Peter Pan, Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have simply imagined a background for Peter. This series goes through the days before Peter became the legendary "Peter Pan." It's great, because those who aren't familiar with the story can follow, and those who do know the story can be amused by references to what Peter will eventually become.

Aside from the history behind the characters, this is an entertaining and delightful children's novel. Peter and the Shadow Thieves is the sort of book that made me fall in love with reading. It has all the right elements of mystery, suspense, humor, and simple, good fun. There are dangerous parts that made me hold my breath (especially with Jim Dale's narration!) and completely immerse myself in the story with the characters and root for their victory

As with any fantastic children's novel, Peter and the Shadow Thieves has a terrifying bad guy. Named Lord Ombra, he can steal the shadow of anyone, and he wants the magical starstuff to make him all-powerful. I don't know about you, but I think an adventure book is only as good as the antagonist, and Lord Ombra is a definite win. He seems like a character straight out of a particularly horrifying Doctor Who episode. Our shadows are exactly the type of thing we take for granted, and for Barry and Pearson to introduce a character who is capable of stealing people's shadows -- *shudder* I admit, Lord Ombra has entered into my nightmare hall of fame.

In the end, I think I wanted a little more from the side of Captain Hook and the Lost Boys. In this novel, Peter is in England fighting Lord Ombra and the Lost Boys are left to their own devices against Captain Hook. I know that Peter is the main character, but I would have liked more of a balance between the two. Besides that, however, it's a fun, entertaining read that I recommend for all lovers of adventure and fantasy. The end is satisfying in that it answers the most crucial and biting questions, but it still leaves a lot unanswered, so that I'm eager to continue the series.

There just aren't enough words to say how amazing Jim Dale is as a narrator. He puts life and vivacity in every story he reads. The characters all have their own voices, and he matches his pace, rhythm, and tone to what's going on in the story. If you're at all interested in audiobooks, definitely go for the audiobook version of this one. It is a treat.

This book, like the one before it, was absolutely delightful! I read it in an effort to take a small angst vacation. Peter Pan is my all time favorite children's story/ fairy tale, so these books are right up my alley. In this one, we are starting to see Peter struggle with the fact that the other Lost Boys are growing up, as is Molly, but Peter never will. I'm interested to see how Barry and Pearson will develop this part of the storyline, because in J. M Barrie's book, the Lost Boys are children forever. Just like Peter.

I have to say that George Darling irritated the snot out of me at times. He's very pretentious and doesn't like Peter at all. Peter pretty much hates George, too. Molly tries to keep George at arms length with the situation as much as she can, but he forces himself into the situation despite her efforts. Also, it becomes clear that Molly and Peter need George's aid and resources, no matter how much Peter tries to deny it! Molly tries not to show favoritism when it comes to the boys, but does have a wonderful moment when she puts George in his place after he crosses a line with his assessment of Peter.

I'm interested to see how the situation with Peter and the Lost Boys will develop. Will Thomas, Tubby Ted, James and Prentiss be renamed as Tootles, Slightly and the other Lost Boys we know and love? Where are the Twins? How and when will the Lost Boys stop aging, like Peter? And when will we first hear "Second star to the right and straight on til morning"?

This chapter in the Peter and the Starcatchers series was quite suspenseful and mysterious. My grandsons enjoyed listening to it and I enjoyed reading it to them. It was hard to stop reading when they dozed off and not keep going on my own to see what happens. Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have done a wonderful job bringing Peter Pan and company alive and telling us the story of how it all began. I have the next one already lined up and ready to begin tomorrow!! Recommend to all Peter Pan fans and anyone who likes lively adventure and suspense!! Well done gentlemen !!

We finished this a while ago but I must've forgotten to log it. We did set it aside in order to read The Christmas Pig during the holidays.
Lord Ombra is dark creepy character which is a bit at odds with the "idjit" and brassiere jokes of the first book. In reading it aloud I think that Lord Ombra ended up sounding a lot like Lord Voldemort, ha.
This is an engaging story with familiar characters and the girls have enjoyed as we've continued the series. If your kids are easily spooked, they may not like the Ombra figure.

The sequel that checked all the boxes for me. This was a much darker, and spooky storyline. I especially loved my quiet discovery of how things in this series (prequel?) set you up for the story of Peter Pan we all know. I put in a good many hours reading this in 2-3 days, and couldn’t step away. Onward to book 3!

A enchanting adventure with all the original characters from the Peter Pan stories written and adapted to movies over the years. Peter is still a young boy in charge of the Lost Boys on Neverland Island where the Indians watch over the young boys on one part of the island while Captain Hook and his band of pirates live on the opposite side of the island. Hook is always finding schemes to capture Peter for revenge on loosing his hand to Tick Tock the crocodile. But when a dark lord calling himself non other than Lord Ombre comes to the island seeking the Stardust for his evil band of Others where he soon learns the Stardust has been taken to London. Peter decides he must warn Molly and her father of the evilness heading their way by stowing away on Lord Ombre's ship. Once in London Peter must locate Molly, which he does. But is he in time to stop Lord Ombre from stealing the Stardust? Good reading for children of all ages.

This series is a prequel to the Peter Pan story we all know. Quite enjoyable...my 5 year old will love these in a few year. They are wonderful adventures for young readers and adults will enjoy them as well.

For a juvenile literature, this book surely is suitable for adults either (maybe only half adults like me). I liked the book from the very start. There was just one point where I've been too much irritated by the story. But for the rest of the parts, it was okay.

This retailing story of peter pan is about a boy (of course peter pan!) and his adventures. There is a certain Robinson Crusoe flavour in it. However this particular story was mostly based on London. So, not much island adventure there for you.

There is no complexity or twists in the plot, neither any suspension or jaw dropping adventure. Its just a plain juvenile adventure where all the main characters are barely teens. But I enjoyed the book so much because turning page was never a task! I just flew through the whole book (just like peter).

I loved the first part of the series which I must have read two or three years ago! The second book is equally satisfying to me. Though its not a outstanding book, I see no reason not to give this book a personal rating of five stars.

I do adore a good backstory, and Dave Barry and his co-authors provide just that for the Peter Pan saga. Favorite moment in this installment: when J.M. Barrie meets Peter in a dark London alley. He walks away musing, "Peter. That's a good name . . ."
