A much more chatty account than Persepolis but one full of warmth, humour and a group of fascinating women sharing their wisdom. Through the eyes of a 21st century British feminist, the women's ideas of empowerment and control in relationships are a little tough to swallow, but there's something undeniably powerful in the way these stories are told to us: no mincing of words, just the truth, with all the sadness and humour contained within.

Qué interesante conocer las conversaciones de mujeres que viven tan lejos de mi país y que sin embargo sufren opresiones similares (y algunas bastante peores).

Tengo entendido que esta historia nace de Persépolis, que aún no he leído, y con el buen sabor de boca que me ha dejado va a convertirse en trampolín a la obra más laureada de Satrapi. El cómic lo saqué de la biblioteca en un momento en el que estaba muy saturado de lecturas y necesitaba algo ligero. Las confesiones e intimidades de estas mujeres iraníes que se reúnen para charlar cuando sus maridos están echando la siesta fueron el bálsamo que necesitaba: llenas de buen humor, ironía e inteligencia a partes iguales, aseguran un rato muy agradable. A pesar de que el nivel de feminismo de sus páginas no pasa de parvulario para un occidental, la naturalidad de su narrativa junto con un dibujo básico pero expresivo, redondean mucho una obra que le he dado a leer hasta a mi madre. Tanto si te ha gustado Persépolis como si aún no conoces a su autora, Bordados es un cómic muy recomendable.

Güzel bir sabah okuması, arkadaş sohbeti kitabı. Persepolis'in yazar-çizerinden yine çok iyi bir çizgi roman. Kadın kadına sohbetler en samimisinden. İran'da yaşayan bir grup kadının bir semaver başı sohbetiyle başlayan ve çok tanıdık gelecek eleştirel hikayeleriyle alıp götüren bir kara mizah kitabı.

Set in post-revolution Iran, this graphic novel had me laughing quite a bit.

Satrapi does a great job capturing the casual yet vivid conversations among Iranian women, which can feel relatable to anyone familiar with more traditional, conservative cultures.

The generational stories shared are both amusing and revealing, covering topics like virginity, infidelity, and even the “embroidery” technique women use to satisfy their partners.

What struck me most was how it highlights the big contrast between Eastern and Western views on virginity, which makes for an interesting discussion from different cultural perspectives.

Overall, it’s pretty entertaining!

Η Satrapi κεντάει για άλλη μια φορά. Ένα κόμικ (ή graphic novel, για όσους δεν τα πάνε καλά με τον όρο) που με αστείο τρόπο μιλάει για σοβαρά θέματα της ιρανικής κουλτούρας. Και κυρίως για τη θέση της γυναίκας.
Με λίγα λόγια, θα μπορούσαμε να πούμε ένα πιο σόκιν Persepolis. Καθόλου άσχημα, δηλαδή.

WHAT A FUCKING HILARIOUS QUICK READ. Damn, Satrapi never stops to amaze you and make you laugh at the same time. Persepolis was so good and Embroideries is no less. A conversation over a cup of tea one afternoon in Tehran over sex and secrets being shared among the women in you family and neighbourhood. Who would not like to be a part of it or even get a glimpse of customs in Iran. Finished in one shot, that's how amazing and laughable this book was.

La última, finalmente es Marjane Satrapi con otra novela gráfica autobiográfica. De Marjane siempre me ha sorprendido cómo narra sus sueños y vivencias y como narra las relaciones entre mujeres. Bordados es una novela muy sencilla, donde varias mujeres se juntan (siendo Marjane la más joven, puesto que son reuniones de su abuela) y platican. Cuentan sus vidas mientras hacen algunas labores, hablan de los hombres, de sus amores, de sus experiencias. Nada me gusta más al escribir de la vida de las mujeres que reconocerlas a ellas como personas.

Así que me parece adecuado recomendarlo en mi undécimo aniversario porque aquí se habla mucho de mujeres en la literatura y de mujeres que escriben y reconocer que son personas es una de las cosas que más me gusta (y uno diría que es imposible que no pase, pero la retórica de "mujeres dulces angelitos incapaces de hacer nada malo) de repente sí aparece mucho en la literatura. Por eso, los invito a leer Bordados, de Marjane Satrapi.
