Rape makes me ragey. Also a plentiful overabundance of the word “whore” and “slut” as well as anything in between those two descriptors. Oh and lots and lots and lots o’ gazing at some girl boobies. Why did I not just throw it against the wall? I don’t know. Though I felt a bit like I was caught in the gaze of a cobra and was just paralyzed in horror.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So, I’m a big fan of Sandra Brown’s romantic suspense novels, but I had no idea that early on she wrote a couple historical westerns and so when I found them at my library, I pounced on them!

I did this to myself.

I read another book by the same author who wrote the worst book I've read this year so far. This book also includes another doormat heroine, and the most hypocritical hero I've ever seen. Seriously though, I've never hated a hero as much as I hated him. To elaborate briefly, he raped her because he was jealous, and she was too stupid to call him out on it. That's all I needed to say. Granted, I was skimming through the last portion of the book, so perhaps there were more annoying things about this book that I missed.

I give this book two stars, mainly because the preface of the story was interesting and original, in my opinion, but the execution fell off. Overall, not a fan, and I probably will never read another book by this author ever again.

I loved this series by Sandra Brown! I just wished that she had written a book about Banner’s brother Lee, and one about Jake’s brother (Lee’s best friend) Micah. This series are my favorite books by SB!

A friend gave me a Sandra Brown short story to read and I really enjoyed it and went looking for another of her books, came across this one. It was an engaging story, but quite disturbing. I don't like stories with rape in them and this one has that theme running through it. It's also a frontier story. The heroine has had a terrible life thus far and the hero is hiding from his past. They are an unlikely couple. Without giving away any details, what I liked about the book: How the heroine took such good care of the newborn she was entrusted with, nursing him and loving him like her own. Even though not the baby's natural mother and having suffered her own loss, she found happiness in helping to save this baby's life. The couple had quite a lot of communication problems and other internal problems, but by the end of the book, it seemed like the hero was trying to make his relationship work.

The main male character, Russ Coleman was a bit much, mad all the time it seemed especially when his second wife, Lydia was involved. The story line seemed it would produce an interesting plot but there was way too much panting and descriptive sex to get much of the story line to take over. I've read much better Sandra Brown books.

This man was actual doodoo caca water and were supposed to WANT them to end up together and have a happily every after??? I spent half the entire book PRAYING that Hill was the love interest and that he was actually not dead and she would be treated like an actual human being instead of whatever Ross was doing. When I realized it wasn't some sick joke at the end I put the book down and stared into oblivion for a ridiculous amount of time.
