The more I learn about the remarkable Jimmy Carter the greater my respect grows for him and what he achieved in his life. What an amazing story. To my knowledge, his entire lifetime service to humanity has no peers. Especially when considered against the numerous presidents who came before or after him. Jimmy Carter is the only president who maintained and preserved his integrity to the truth and resisted all efforts to make him otherwise.

Stood in line to get this signed at the Tattered Cover bookstore in Denver years ago, and had brief conversation with Pres. Carter:
Me: I hope you don't get carpel tunnel syndrome.
He: (small laugh) If I haven't by now, I never will.
Nice memory.

Yes, these poems are by our 39th President. These poems are reflections on his life, from being raised on a farm in Plains, GA to going in stocking feet in a submarine listening to the "...wild sea sounds, the scratch of shrimp..." and the songs of whales.

His style of poetry is not what I normally read (I prefer un-rhymed narrative poems) but these present a good insight to this remarkable man. Well worth the read.

I picked this up on a whim at some library book sale or other. I found the poems really thoughtful and interesting. I’m not sure I’d want to read them over and over again but I’m glad I read them once. This book made me respect Jimmy Carter even more than I did previously - it gives a lot of insight into how he became who he was.

Jimmy Carter is a surprisingly thoughtful poet. There are a lot of poems about the South and such. They're not bad, they're just not my taste.

A personal and introspective collection of poems by President Carter.

The poetry was a bit better than I expected. The stories in them were not quite as interesting as I had hoped for.
