I wish I could rate this higher. Carter's poems are compassionate and thoughtful, and not badly written. I enjoyed getting more insight into his thoughts and memories. I might give this four stars after a re-read.

gonna be honest, I didn't actually read all of the poems in this, but the ones I did read were pretty good. Jimmy I was unfamiliar with your poetry game.

I was expecting more, but it has some sweet vignettes of Carter’s childhood and his perspectives on various issues.

My sister and her husband gifted me an autograph copy of Jimmy Carter's 1995 poetry book "Always a Reckoning". The book's 43 poems are each beautifully illustrated by Carter's 16 year old granddaughter, Sarah. After reading the first several poems, I decided to continue reading the poetry during daily visits to my favorite church. The poetry and illustrations are inspiring and the morning light of the church gave the poetry just the right ambiance. I enjoyed the book very much and I plan to read it again during visits to parks in my hometown and surrounding area.

Simple poems give insight into the person would become our 39th president, and our very, very best former oval office holder.

A sweet man who really just saw the good in the world is always there we just need to look harder. Doing his best to make the world a better place, through one poem at a time. Understanding and equality are shown through out each poem. Just beautiful.

In some ways, a clearer, simpler portrait of Jimmy Carter than any biography could be. I enjoyed these views of his life, his beliefs, his wishes and his dreams.

A simply written, beautiful look into Jimmy Carter's growing up, his family, and a life well lived. Very inspirational.

This was a good collection of poems. It ran shortly across the bulk of the life of our great former president. One does not only get to see him as a person but gets to know that he sees things as we do. I enjoyed reading this as well as noting the illustrations. His poems catch the simple side of life and also bring some of the complexities of being president into simple verse.

Jimmy carter deserves praise!!

Not only is he a wonderful human being, but he is also an incredible writer. His poetry is beautiful, well formed, and speaks softly and earnestly on topics of agriculture, race, family, and nature.

I can’t be a trusted reviewer because I love Jimmy Carter too much.
