4 stars.

The series is getting more and more exciting! We finally meet up with some old characters that I missed. And the assumptions I had turned out to be true, more or less. And that cliffhanger at the end, though!

I need to continue with the next book NOW!

This is a VERY important book in the Cirque du Freak series. Because there are three major characters that make their return, from the first three books. So we haven’t seen them in a long time.

Also, Darren is getting the height of the human experience in this book, and it is one of the few things he does *not* miss about being human at all–n  schooln. Poor kid. It’s been a little while since I’ve read it, but I think him and Crepsley stay at a hotel somewhere and the paperwork they turn in lets the city or county know that there’s a kid, and that he’s not in school…so they must enroll him in school.

I absolutely love the part where he has to wear the school uniform, Crepsley and Harkat laugh at him, and he takes his shoe off and throws it at them. XDD

This book does get a little darker again though, a reminder of what kind of world we’re dealing with here. Without saying too much, basically it’s starts being to the point where humans who are unaware of everything, are not safe (hint: Vampaneze).

به نظرم قوی‌ترین جلد مجموعه تا جلد هشتم همین جلد بود. پیچیدگی‌های داستان بیشتر شده و کمتر قابل حدسه.

This book is full of groaning and eye rolling. The core plot is the vampires are at war and Darren and a bunch of improvised allies must fight the lord of the vampaneze. Here is the thing: this is difficult to read because it is just absurd.

Let's assume that a prophecy with some sort of destination twist has the compelling hook to keep the reader engaged. Even in that, the characters would require to do more than just running around in common scenarios for the story to go smoothly. Not only the revivals are far fetched and simpleton, they also do not comply with the story at a large scale. It seems more a wobbly effort to fill more pages than to actually continue with the central argument.

ok so ill be the first to admit that the start of this book didnt have me hooked, out of all things to happen on this quest i doubted very much it would begin with young Darren Shan having to enrol in high school and go to classes, this was a twist that i really didnt think the series needed.
However, as it managed to progress the story line, ill be the first to admit that it worked, not as exciting as a vampire prince travelling the world and seeing new things but given how the story line panned out, it works.

Turns out i was wrong about my theory of Steve showing up and being revealed as the vampanese lord....or was i? im still not convinced that he doesnt have a larger part to play in this series, i guess we will find out.

We are up to book 9 my friends, we are getting close to the end and im so interested to see what happens, please make the last few books longer.

Wow, I'd forgotten how much happens in this book! A return of so many old characters, plus love and betrayal? This is a good one. A little odd how much the trio gives in to the trap they're clearly in, but hey, gotta keep it dramatic, right? We're right at the edge of what I remember from my original read-through of the series, so the next few books should be a blast.

THIS BOOK DOES NOT have the same feel as the previous three

The last few books were so mentally and physically grueling Darren that I couldn't wait for book 8. I was tired of reading what this poor kid got up to. Finally, some lighthearted adventures.

This one has a somewhat similar feel for  Tunnels of Blood - a bit of mystery, a bit of whodunit combined with Darren (the character, not the writer) having to deal with (dun dun dunnnn) high school.

I honestly wish more of the series had this feel to it.

On a side note, anyone else bugged by his age? Every book, I keep trying to place his age but there's never enough clues to get it exactly...

Really loved this one - I think its ingenious where they ended up going in terms of setting and a great way to realign Darren back to audience experientially. Brilliant. I really liked this one and I'm already really looking forward to the next one!

(3.25) While I found this book just as stunning as the others and finishing faster than the others it was slightly predictable by the ending battle. It should have been no surprise that after 7 other books Steve would finally make a reappearance with some story about being a "changed" man after thirteen years, but what was a surprise was the return of Debbie after so long. That was really the only shocking "plot twist" of this book. I am still excited to finally finish this series after so long.

This was my least favorite one in the series. This one starts with Darren being forced to go school, which I thought was dumb and pointless. It was interesting to see some old characters return (some much more than others).  it was interesting to see Debbie again, but the relationship between her and Darren was awkward because of the different in how old they looked. And there was no reason to bring RV back  But more than anything this one felt incomplete and just ended abruptly on unnecessary cliffhanger.

how I read 8 books from this series as a teenager and not remember a single thing about it, i will never know. I mean...if I read 8 of them they're pretty good I guess - from someone who gets bored and drops series often.
