1. Darren Shan adds very macabre touches to his writing, and uses good cliffhangers and suspense to add to the feeling. All of the foreshadowing ("I know what's happening, and I'll stop it!"), gives you a stronger feeling, and enhances the feeling of being in the book.
2. Darren Shan gives the main character (Darren Shan) lots of characterization. From his feelings on becoming a half-vampire to being Mr. Crepsley's assistant, you see a lot of anger in our kid vampire.
3.This installment in the saga of Darren Shan starts with Darren and Mr. Crepsley traveling, and later they head to the Cirque Du Freak, where they meet new friends, such as Evra the snake-boy, and the young human Sam. Sam really wants to join the Cirque, but his countless attempts to become a member don't work. Further on, they meet R.V., an eco-warrior, who is curious about the Cirque. When Darren manages to get a ticket for them, RV feels very sympathetic for the wolf-man....almost too sympathetic. He tries to free it the same night that Sam tries to sneak in, and both of his (RV's) arms are ripped off by the wolf-man. He runs off screaming into the night "My arms!My arms! Where are they?!". Darren sees Sam's backpack, and, realizing what happened, chases the wolf-man, and finds himself in an abandoned train station. He sees Sam hiding, and joins him, but the wolf-man attacks! Darren tells Sam to run, but Sam tries to protect Darren, and is fatally wounded. Suddenly, Mr. Crepsley appears, and knocks the wolf-man out. Then he tells Darren that if he sucks all of Sam's blood out, Sam's spirit will live forever in Darren's body. Grudgingly, Darren does so. The story ends with Darren having a craving for pickled onions-Sam's favorite food.

Book 2 definitely wasn’t as exciting as the first, but it still packed some gruesome moments and was a decent continuation of the story.

The book continued the story of the first book. This book gives you the same hero and his mentor. He has a hard time accepting the ways of a vampire. The book goes off to explain the events that took place before this book and who the character is. After that the story begins. After having to leave his family and join Mr. Crepsley they go off to join the Cirque du Freak. Once there Darren learns a lot about the circus and all its performers. He also learns about these people called the Little People. They keep the circus in check and keep alive. After getting situated he gains a new best friend around his age and both go out to explore the area. They meet new people, some that are good and others that are bad. Both will have to stick together and try to work together to fix the problems presented in the book. It had a basic plot line and everything that happened was foreshadowed, however somethings came as a surprise. This book has no mercy for anyone, so anyone can be a victim. This makes the book much better in creating a vibe that scares and warns the readers about something that will happen. Overall, the book receives a 5 star rating because of how well it is composed and how great the plot line is.

Book 2. Darren Shan continues his brilliance in this addictive series. Darren Shan succeeds in making his main character very human(yet a half-vampire) and he makes the characters in the actual Cirque Du Freak seem very every day and not at all freakish.

This novel is about Darren coming to terms with the fact that he's no longer a human. He's half-vampire and has to drink blood. He doesn't want to. He thinks all vampires are evil and would rather die than drink from humans but something terribly tragic happens and Darren must not only drink for himself but for his friend.

We get to meet Evra in this one. I always liked the little snake boy. I loved getting to see behind the scenes of the cirque! It was cool watching Darren getting to meet the acts he loved so much from the first novel. But this one is much gorier than the first and the ending isn't a happy one. It's very bittersweet. We do get to see Darren grow though. Also maybe... just maybe he's starting to like his vampire master a little.

Im going to say something. I almost puked during this book several times. I will continue the series, but I would like to forewarn you about the disgusting graphics this book gives you. I didn't expect this book to be this way, as I found it in the kid section. I think that it should belong in the adult section.

I don’t write reviews.

This was a nice story. Friendship forms the heart of it. Nothing too amazing, but I’ll continue the series I think. Light light easy reading.

Let me just start off by saying NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE EVER HAPPENED IF YOU WOULD HAVE JUST DRANK SOME HUMAN BLOOD DARREN! Or you could have told Mr. Tall everything that was going on sooner than later, BUT NOOOOO.

“For a long time that's all I could do, howl and scream and cry like the wild animal of the night that I'd become.”

I've grown to love this series as a whole. It's an easy and enjoyable read (probably because it's main audience is children).

I found the foreshadowing to be a little bothersome but I had to remind myself that the book wasn't made entirely for adults to read. The ending may have severely traumatized a kid if they didn't have the subtle hints.

Overall, an excellent read! I look forward to reading the next one (:
