this was so short, so thats why it gets a bit of a lower rating. i think if it was the length of a normal book, i wouldve felt a lot more attached to the characters and overall enjoyed it more.

i did like this though! super quick read, fairly enjoyable.

honestly not much to say because of how short it was, but i was NOT expecting the last like 40ish pages.

ending was heartbreaking, and i definitely wouldve cried if i hadnt been reading it in public

There are two main characters in this book, Freak and Max. Kevin is a character that has a small body but has the most intelligent mind while Max has a huge body and in the book it says how his mind isn’t very smart. But I think that there’s no such thing as being stupid so I think Max is very smart in his own way. This book was okay but not the best. Throughout the book they become so close that it’s so scary, like you never knew that they can be so close to each other. I’m not sure what kinds of themes are in this book but there might be at least one. One of the themes can be like a learning disability like how Max has a learning disability. This character is kind of like Christopher from “The curious incident of the dog in a night-time.” Because the character Max and Christopher are sort of like, like how Christopher is autistic and Max has a learning disability. One of the things that stood out to me when I was reading this book was how like Kevin and Max even though they are both different from each other in many ways, like how they became one. Like how two becomes one, they were able to understand each other. I recommend this book to whoever has also read the book “The curious incident of the dog in the night-time.” Because they both are like, realistic fiction in many ways.

This book was ok. It was an interesting story for the most part. I wanted to like it more than I actually did though. I feel it was kinda rushed in places and was a tad violent for a children's book. The main character Max broke my heart. So much suffering for someone so young.

If you have ever been in a room full of people, and felt so profoundly alone that you thought you could die from that fucking soul-deep pain, then you will feel this book in your bones. If you like to laugh, and if love the grandest of adventures, then I believe you will fall into this book.

I cannot recommend this book enough, I mean, the only way I could recommend it more highly would be with physical force! This is a tale of redemption, not redemption from wrongdoing, but redemption from the imagined sins of the father, as well as a tale of how we should all stand together against the viccissitudes of fate, and the messed up humans who seek to prey upon us.
Happy Dragon-Slaying!! "Freak, Freak the Mighty!!"

I didn't really enjoy this one it just wasn't interesting or was it something I would usually read ( it was required reading). I enjoyed some parts of this book but thought other parts were quite boring. Overall rating 2.5 stars. Just wasn't really my thing!

Freak the Mighty

tFreak the Mighty is about a friendship between two boys who are both slow in their own way. Freak also known as Kevin is highly intelligent, but small and crippled. Max/Mighty is very tall and large but has special needs. Together they help one another conquer difficulties that arise. Max needs academic support, and Kevin needs height and feet. Kevin tutors Max and in exchange Max takes freak to places he could never go himself; both of their worlds open up for them because now they have it all. Together they are a team which they call themselves Freak the Mighty. Max’s main internal conflict was what people thought of him.
tThroughout reading this book I made a text-to-world connection. Many people are attracted to others who can help them and vise versa. People want an equal relationship and that is exactly what Kevin and Max had. Although, the two boys had more than that they had a bond that would never brake.
tI would undoubtedly give this book 5 stars. Tears will swell by the time you finish this story. It will encourage you to become more open to the world, to people’s differences and accepting. If you liked Freak the Mighty check out other books from Rodman Philbrick.

So I'm 14 and I thought this was good but I gave it two stars, here's why. The book follows Maxwell whose father was imprisoned for the murder of his wife and was raised by his grandparents, and he is HUGE! He meets this kid named Kevin who he later calls freak and he's very smart but physically handicapped (and also ages on the inside not the outside). They have adventures together until... it gets to the part which made me give it two stars, and to explain it in pictures

Kevin's heart grew bigger than his body and he died leaving Max friendless and nobody benefits, and then the book just f**king ends! What the f!@k is this s#!t! Also to make this sadder Kevin was lied to and thought he was gonna get a bionic body, but nope, just f@#king dies!

My class just finished reading Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick. The story is about 2 boys who have a odd friendship and different issues. They go on different adventures together and are always together no matter what. Max had kind of had a hard life when he was younger but Kevin changed that. Kevin made Max's life better than before. Max even helped Kevin to. One if the themes in the story is don't judge a book by its cover because Max thougt Kevin was kinda weird in he beginning but athey turned out to be great friends. Why I liked Freak the Mighty was because Max and Kevin's friendship was really awesome and they never left each other side and they always went on theses amazing adventures.

I get to teach this book so I wanted to read through it first. And I'm glad I did because this was an emotional hurricane! A great book about a big boy diagnosed as LD and a smaller boy with a physical disability...and how they combine their brains and brawn to take on the world. Cute King Arthur parallels too. A nice little book that will stay with you long after you finish.
