Niall Ferguson has a genius for making sense of the complex and presenting the story of a history in a way that makes the present and the future clear and understandable. Not an easy read -especially when confronted by the evils that humans are capable of- but a very worthwhile read.

you have to be quite enthusiastic about mankind in order not to become a misanthrop after reading this book.

Prefixed by a strange rant about race but from then on it's completely engrossing. Seamlessly covers the wars and their aftermath. Nothing is sanitised, unless you're a psychopath, this will be a hard and depressing read.

Finally calling it quits after 4 years vaguely assuming I’d finish this book one day. It’s not gonna happen.
