At the end of the day, when the infomercials & ra ra begins to de glow, Robbins has something to say, it has tangible value & there is a reason he is infinitely quotable - Cus he’s a damn smart fella!!!
I'm sure this book is good as self-help books go, but I've just never been able to catch the vision of self help. I worry that I'd take myself too seriously, become too self conscious, and end up kind of ridiculous. And that's probably why I'll never climb the highest ladder of success in life. Oh well. For those who can do it, have fun at the top.
I gave two stars because I liked his joke about how many psychiatrists it takes to change a light bulb: one, but the light bulb needs to be willing to be honest and open.
This book shows you the most effective methods and strategies in terms of controlling your emotions, your body, your relationships and your finances in different aspects of your life. It offers a step-by-step program that provides you with basic lessons to help you control your life. It enables you to discover your real life goals and how you can control your life so that you control all the forces that will shape your life. It is a profound and effective tool in the arsenal of Anthony Robbins to identify himself.
Although I am not with books that talk about self-development, but the experience is not harmful, especially with the most famous person in this area, the book I took advantage of it in the stories and judgment and things that talked about and were excellent examples and you can benefit from it very, and we can say will come in your life Or hear it in your daily life. True Scripture says things that may not suit you in your life or say these are fiction but taking the side that you will benefit from or that you can do and can change something in your life even if it does not change dramatically but small change generates greater change, as I said this quality Of books is not a requirement that you read it continuously, but between period and period as a side book read in spare time or away from the rest of the types of books.
The giant within is desperate for money, approval, recognition and fame, and can’t stand living in a small apartment, but needs things in excess to feel “happy”.
A motivational and practical guide to the power of decisions in reaching our goals. I liked the themes of taking responsibility and continuously improving. It discusses success not only in financial terms, but also mental, emotional, and physical (bodily). It's somewhat overly optimistic at times, but far less cheesy than I expected.
The "giant within" in the title is decision. Our decisions about "how we think, how we feel, and what we do"..."will determine the quality of our present and future."
I liked the chapter on The Power of Life Metaphors, which talks about the psychological effects of words.
I realize this isn't a theology book, but there were a couple items I didn't completely agree with. Robbins says that "God's delays are not God's denials." Although this is sometimes true, it's not universally true. Sometimes (often, actually) God denies us things that we want, because He knows best. In another place, Robbins applies Matthew 7:7 ("Seek and ye shall find") to our material lives, even though in that passage Jesus is speaking of spiritual things.
I read this book because I had heard it referenced several times, and it was included in Self-Help Classics.
Notes Mastery • "Mastery takes as long as you want it to take." Take action more frequently to decrease time to mastery. • "The most powerful way I've learned to compress time is to learn through other people's experience."
Conditioning • People will do more to avoid pain than to gain pleasure. • To condition effectively, reward or punish immediately after incident. • Use a variable schedule of reinforcement. For example, dolphins are sometimes rewarded after first jump, sometimes after fifth, etc. This encourages them to perform consistently. • Offer jackpots: occasional, unexpected surprises to reinforce behavior.
Goals • If you have a big enough why to do something - a strong enough set of reasons - you can always figure out how to achieve it. • Ask yourself, "What kind of person will I have to become in order to achieve all that I want?" • "Most of us have created numerous ways to feel bad, and only a few ways to feel truly good." "You could be winning and feel like you're losing because the scorecard you're using is unfair." Change your rules so it's easy to feel good and hard to feel bad.
Conduct • "Go put your creed into your deed." - Ralph Waldo Emerson • "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience." - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
I actually heard one of those audio books on Anthony Robbins - Awaken the Giant Within: How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical, and Financial. The book was published in 1991 and motivational guru, Robbins, gave sold out seminars and even coached presidents, pop stars bla bla. It was a very fast listen that was well within 2 hrs. Personally, Robbins spoke too fast, but it was nevertheless very entertaining. It was very timely for the New Year, where ideas are big and ambitious. Where you're not afraid to dream and your outlook on life is bright.
I take away he's core selling points in the CD: What are your Goals? 1) In Life? 2) At Work? 3) For your Toys and Adventures? 4) For Contributions to Society?
Set a timeline for these goals.
There are 6 main points for change: 1) What do you really want? a) Be specific b) Identify what is preventing it
2) Get Leverage a) Identify your motivation for change right now b) Create a sense of urgency c) Identify the pain of not changing
3) Interrupt Patterns a) Do something radical or different
4) New Empowering Alternative a) Identify what your alternatives could be
5) Condition New Patterns to be Consistent a) Link your changes with rewards b) Make pleasure immediate
6) Test if New Patterns Work
What is that 1 inspiring item you'll really work to achieve this year?
The first time I read this book I just felt very happy for a few weeks. The power of the techniques in this book is lifechanging. Implementation of all of them can be difficult - many of them are not easy, and just reading a book does not give enough push to do sth. This is one of the most practical books I’ve ever read, and even though Tony Robbins is not 100% correct (no one is), most of his strategies do work. My top 3 takeaways are: * You can change your beliefs to ones that empower you and remove ones that dis-empower you. * Focus only on things that you can control (maybe not a new thing, however, I love his perspective on this one). * Follow your ends values, not your means values. You can read the full summary of this book together with the main action points in the BooksInAction app as well as here: https://www.mentorist.app/books/awake...
One of the best and most comprehensive personal development books out there. The central message is this: you have the power right now to control how you think, how you feel, and what you do. Everything you could ever want, tangible or not, is all within you. Tony Robbins has a wealth of experience which he essentially puts in its rawest form into this book. I found it a fantastic read and IF IMPLEMENTED, then a sincere aid to your life and whatever you want out of it. HIs techniques I've listed below. However Robbins does a good job of detailing the steps in these techniques in simple plain English - so I recommend giving the book a read. My only true complaint is this -- the book is so meaty and so comprehensive that it makes it very difficult to implement his tools. There is no guidebook, per se. He does, through his website, sell other programs retailing at $200 which offer a 30-day program, a 7-day program, etc. This is a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. Ultimately, read the book, be prepared to use other resources if you have to, and know with certainty that if there is something about your life you would like a little or a lot better, it's all within you to get whatever you choose. Pick one of his techniques and follow through and you'll end up using others too.
- The small decisions you make daily determine your destiny. - All behaviors can be changed by changing beliefs, values, rules, and identity. - Ask the right questions! Don't ask "how are you?" Ask "how good are you??" Ask yourself every night, what will I have to do tomorrow for a stellar day? And follow through. Don't ask - what do I really hate about my spouse? THE MIND WILL FIND WHATEVER YOU TELL IT TO SEEK OUT. Instead ask -- what do I really love about my spouse? - Similarly, the vocabulary you choose will create your own beliefs. Choose wisely. - We have life values that we never set for ourselves. What if you lived by values that you set yourself? For example, I swear to live by these three values daily: Happiness, Focus/Determination, Gratitude. Imagine a life where every day you lived by these and didn't go to sleep until you had them? - We decide what things mean to us, the value we attach to them. - We can hold ourselves to a higher standard. - Your belief system guides you. If you say you "don't have time," this is merely your belief system and needs to be tweaked. - To create long-term change, there must be a change in identity. Someone envisions themselves and therefore their identity as a smoker or a former smoker will therefore always crave a cigarette. If he/she changes their identity to feel like a nonsmoker, they indeed create lasting change. - New references (or experiences) provide the fabric for new beliefs and new identities. A small success that you hang on to and connect with gives you the conviction to know that you CAN succeed. "If I can do this, what else can I do??" - Gaining pleasure and avoiding pain are the forces that affect every one of our actions. Magnify the appropriate neuroassociation and you'll have full control of your actions. - Interrupt limiting patterns. - Weaken your destructive rules. "If I'm quitting smoking I only am doing it cold turkey. I don't need any of those aids out there." Weaken the reference legs of these destructive beliefs.
