Dick Francis books great as always

All his books are about horses in some way and I could care less about horses. But he is such a great story teller. I wish he had done more series like Sid Halley. Compelling read all the way

I last read a Dick Francis book approximately 30 years ago , and from some of the comments in this book I realised that it must have been the previous Sid Halley book ‘Whip Hand’
An unusual detective/ crime novel with an interesting detective/ private investigator and unusual plot

Sid Halley, ex-jockey turned detective, returns in a new book. Someone is cutting of the off-hand leg of yearlings, just below the fetlock joint. When the person injures the horse of a terminally ill child, it becomes more personal. A few clues point to a famous jockey, loved by many, friend to Halley, and who wasn't present, the mystery deepens and the the political cost to Sid is high.

Sid finds that his friend Ellis Quint may be guilty of maiming horses. A little different from the usual narrative style, with the back and forth. Surprised how much I enjoyed it anyway.
