I really enjoyed this nostalgic, condensed version of the Christmas events from Little House in the Big Woods. This book was chosen for Day 9 of our "25 Days of Christmas Books" blog series: https://www.theproblemsite.com/book-s...
sweet and simple excerpt from the Little House books, good intro to historical fiction for kindergarten and PreK, and a nice walk down memory lane for me with my old favorites from childhood.
This is a simple story based on a Laura Ingalls Wilder's life as a pioneer girl. This book is part of a series of books. The author writes about her own life and the information is an accurate portrayal of history during the time period she writes. This book is about celebrating Christmas when they lived in Wisconsin. It depicts actions and activities of that time period. The main character's cousins came to visit and they enjoyed the good foods and traditions of Christmas. Then Christmas was over and the cousins left. I identified the writing trait of this book as organization and conventions. This book is organized in a chronological way as the characters wait for and enjoy Christmas. This book is also a good example of appropriate writing conventions with good use of capitalization and comma placement. I would use this book as a mentor book for practicing writing using both organization and convention. It is also a good book to have on the shelf for independent reading in the early elementary grades.
This is a storybook version of the Christmas chapter in Little House in the Big Woods. It's a wonderful way to get students excited about reading Laura's books. We use it each year for the time travel day of Christmas Around the World. We travel back in time and have a pioneer Christmas. It's always so much fun.
This book is okay I liked it, it's pretty interesting and love the spirit of Christmas. It's real good especially for young readers to see the character's being animated with holiday spirit. It's a pretty interesting book espeically of the historical events and being able to give back on Christmas. Not be spoiled, just be thankful for what is given for everything in life.
2024 - just as delightful as ever. One of the ones that I remember the best from when I was younger. The illustrations and the light and warmth and joy they imbue!
