It's summer! Close enough, it's warm enough to go outside with a short sleeve shirt and shorts on, that's summer. That means it's time for me to jump into the world of Christmas books. Hot weather is when I need them the most, and this one is a favorite. Of course if you put the word Christmas in the title of a book, I probably will love it.

Cute little shortened version for young readers.

The only thing that stood out was the images- the images had a grey puppy instead of an actual Bulldog, but that wouldn't really be noticeable to a lot of people.

Christmas is a wonderful time. They make molasses candy, play in the snow and are pleased by the items Santa left in the stockings. Ma also makes pancake men.

Diehard fanatics would no doubt bristle at this adaptation, just as scores dream of carving "TOM BOMBADIL" in Peter Jackson's hide. Not a bad simplification of the story, but it's hard to support anything other than the original.

I grew up watching little house but never read the books. I recently started reading them and I really enjoy them! I love the illustrations in this picture book series...it really makes the story come to life.

My favorite series of books when I was a little girl. I loved every single one of them, including this one. Great for girls around 8 to 10.

The illustrations are lovely and are definitely inspired by the originals by Garth Williams. The writing, though, is overly simplified and doesn’t seem like a complete story.

This is a very sweet story that depicts what life used to be like in the 1800's, told from the point of view of little Lara Ingles. The illustrations really help the reader picture all the settings, also there are a lot of good descriptive words (for example when she is describing the snow on her dads mustache). With this detail, there are a lot of activites that can be done with this book to help children learn about how the lifestyle was different back then compared to now. This is a great way in which children can relate themselves to this time period when learning about it. Because they are able to put themselves in Lara's shoes and imagine what their Christmas would be like and how it would be so different than the christmas they have now days. Overall this is a very sweet story that can be read around christmas time in the classroom and can incorporate a history lesson too.
