It was an ok book..i found it did drag out alot but enjoyed it just the same..it kinda centers mainly on the "grandmother" and i was expecting, the way it started, that it would be more about the other 2 women..i still enjoyed it and it was relaxing to read

I constantly felt like I was reading a 5th grade writing project. This book explained everything to death. I only finished reading it because I already got halfway through the book and figured "I got this far..."

This is the exact writing style I've longed for. The grandma's character was amazingly written.
However, i found the resolution a bit quick.
All in all you'll find character depth, reality (most of the time) and in general a very pleasing experience!

I hadn't read Bradford in a while when I picked up an omnibus edition of the 2nd & 3rd books of her Woman of Substance series. At first I didn't realize that this was a separate book altogether which created some confusion on the connections to other characters. I kept waiting for Paula to appear. When I did realize though, I felt that the story was a good standalone, even if pretty typical of Bradford's style. I really enjoyed the characters and the descriptions of their motivations. The author is clearly moved by style and art and fashion which translates well into the theme of the book. Shorter than a lot of her other books, its a good winter curl-up read.

One of Barbara Taylor Bradford's quietly celebrated heart-warming tales Act of Will concerns the young orphan Audra. Forced into work by her greedy aunt and uncle, Audra discovers a talent for nursing with her friend Gwen who is bold and brassy, the polar opposite to the shy and well spoken Audra the two friends both find love, Audra with the destitute Vincent Crowther and Gwen with Mike Leslie, whom she quickly drops in favour of the wealthy doctor Geoffrey Freemantle.

Barbara Taylor Bradford, PB-B @ 1987, 6/88. Three generations of women struggle to become successful in their own rite, independently. Good.
