Over many past years I have read and stuck with one author and followed their series of books. I have read all of their books and now I am reading titles from different authors. This title ‘Hold the Dream’ is the first to read by author Barbara Taylor Bradford. I liked the way she wrote in a descriptive style. It helped me to understand the previous title’s name of ‘A Woman of Substance’ she has written.
I loved the lifestyles of Emma Harte’s grandchildren. The glamour and opulence were diverting. I still couldn’t really warm to Emma herself but loved her granddaughter Paula and also Emily. It was very busy though in terms of numbers of characters and businesses. I look forward to continuing with this series.
I loved this series. A Woman of Substance was without question the best of the series, but I enjoyed following the story with the other books. There is only one Emma Harte so the rest of the characters seem not quite so interesting but I still enjoyed reading them. Never gone back and re-read any of them like I have the first book.
Sequel to 'Woman of Substance'. Emma is 80 and has been training her grandchildren to continue her vast business empire. Fairly readable although I wasn't very interested in the business side; rather spoilt by too many flashbacks to the previous book, pulling in unecessary details that simply filled space.
I loved this book, even though I liked Woman of Substance better. The things that stand out in my mind are how surprising that more characters aren't alcoholics since all they do is drink, and the amount of cigarettes consumed is astounding! So glad Shane and Paula got back together at the end. I hope he finds out about what Ross did to her!
I have loved all Barbara Taylor Bradford’s book. She draws you in, reveals complex characters, and sets them in the most fabulously described environments. It was a wonderful treat to be fully engaged in reading this.
The Saga continues to be a page turner. The families continue their life journey peppered with unpredictability. If you read the first story there is no way to satisfy you without continuing to follow the characters as they struggle through life, the life Emma Harte nurtured.
