I went in expecting it to be light hearted and an older style of writing. I've been reading this series because I wanted something less stressful, and it was a good fit.
Anne of Green Gables (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5) Anne of Avonlea (⭐⭐⭐/5) . Between the two I would say I love the first book more. In the first book, we follow the young Anne, with her imagination and positivity, going on little adventures in smalltown of Avonlea. In Anne of Avonlea, nothing much happened (hench the lower rating) but is so nice to be able to continue following Anne's journey as she grow up into adulthood. Both books are easy to read and full of mischiefs and fun adventures Anne go on, I would recommend it to everyone who want a light, mood lifting read! - One of my favorite things is Anne's relationship with other people around her. Especially with Marilla and her friend, Diana. I love how her positivity, love and understanding change people around her. I also love how the author write the scenery and how she described the changing in season. The narration is so vivid and it brings you right into the story!
" I've made up my mind to enjoy this drive. It's been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will "
This book has been my best friend for the past two weeks, I Loved everything about it from the moment Anne came to Green Gables until the last page. I don't think I ever missed a novel before as much as I will miss this one. I learned from Anne a lot, her character has influenced me in many ways, the fact that she was a child orphan living in a horrible condition, no family no love or compassion but she never lost hope, her imagination was her only escape. She kept loving life, found beauty in the sky and little flowers. Loved her enthusiasm and how she talks too much, which reminded me of myself when I was a child like her. L.M Montgomery has created a beautiful world of family, friendship, happiness and sadness. Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert's love for Anne made me emotional, it just so beautiful. The new netflix TV series is good but it doesn't do justice to the brilliant classic novel. The only thing I wanted more was Anne and Gilbert's love story, the book rarely mentioned Giblert and instead focused more on Friendship and Family. All in all, this book was one of my all time favorite.
4.5/5 if I average the rating of the two books within but I gave it 5 because I just adored it.
Anne of Green Gables - 5/5 (07/07/22 - 09/04/22)
I am already in love. The characters and the writing were just stunning and I was immediately enamoured by Anne as a character.
Anne of Avonlea - 4/5 (13/04/22 - 17/04/22)
For me, the beginning felt a little slower but I did still really enjoy this book. Gilbert is a simp and I cannot wait for the immaculate slowburn I know I am about to embark upon.
Band gespannt :)
i have loved all of the anne of green gables books, but each of the books in the series has been a favorite at different times of my life. my fav when i was in college was anne of the island. my fav when i was writing nathan on his mission was anne of windy poplars. my fav when i was engaged was rilla of ingleside... you get the point. i love anne. i think i am anne. {nathan just read this over my shoulder and stated that i must not be anne, because i am not canadian. good point hubs, good point.}
I've been in a childish mood as of late, and I have all these unread children's books so I decided to crack in to them in between chapters of a very long book.
Anne (with an E) Shirley is a very interesting character, or as she describes herself a 'Kindred Spirit', she's clearly affected with ADHD, she has a beautiful imagination, brimming with dreams and most of all ready to enjoy life, not in a jaded fashion, but how it should be enjoyed, she loves every tiny fern, every little flower, even puffed sleeves! Her capacity to enjoy life is amazing. That is what Matthew must have seen when he was taking a skinny, redhead girl 'home' A tempest had entered his life and he never, ever regretted it. The best that happened to Anne, was Marilla, the strict disciplinarian, for someone had to dampen some of that spirit, but not all of it like Matthew tells her!
Initially, I found Anne a little too heavy. She was very "in your face", quite annoying but then her freshness - her enthusiasm just pulled me in and I loved her, her change into a sweet teenager was very, very convincing and realistic.
I don't understand how I went through my childhood without having read this. I think it is going to be one of those comfort books that I turn to on cold nights!
This honestly just is INCREDIBLY cozy and wistful and charming.. I could go on forever. I was entertained the whole time listening and reading these two books and I swear to God I love every single character in this book. Not even one unlikable?! My personal favorites are Anne, Gilbert, Matthew and Davy. I'm really sad about Matthew honestly, he was so sweet and I'm glad the book doesn't just forget about him. I love Anne so much, she's so incredible and her views on the world are everything I want to live up to. David and Gilbert are just overall enjoyable as a whole. I wanna live in Avonlea so bad honestly
