I can't say I enjoyed this collection of short stories--some were good, most were mediocre, and a few were eye-rollingly stupid or saccharine. The stories concerned acquaintances of Anne and the Blythe family, but the Blythes are only talked about, playing little part in these stories. The wonderfulness of the Blythes was so dreadfully overdone that I was glad Montgomery mentioned how many people hated them because the more stories I read, the more I was starting to hate them too. All but a few of the stories had a dark undercurrent which was the thing that saved the stories from being total bores.

I love Lucy Maud Montgomery's books, but her short-stories, this one in particular is rather disappointing. The descriptions feels dry, I'm sorry to say. I feel as if she didn't write this, but someone else.

I was thrilled to find a LMM book that I hadn't yet read. The stories are classic Maud, but vary in quality, some are sweetly innocent, while others have a more soap opera feel. The stories occur through the Blythe family's history and the Blythe's are referenced in every story but never actually appear directly, which at times feels forced, but gives sneak peeks into family doings never mentioned in the Anne books.

I love this book for so many reasons. Stories are beautiful, specially love stories. Stories reminds you of some part of the Anne series and this can be a great thing for you. Long story short, great book.

چند سال پیش که کتاب قسمت رو خونده بودم با اینکه دوستش داشتم اما نتونستم چندان باهاش ارتباط برقرار کنم. حین خوندن مرتبا آن شرلی تو ذهنم تداعی می‌شد و تمام داستاناشون مشابه بود.
با اینکه این کتاب هم قسمت‌های مشابهی با سه گانه امیلی داشت، اما به نسبت بهتر بود و عنصر مونتگومری بودن توش حفظ شد. دو یا سه تا داستان بودن که برام خسته کننده بودن و واضحا مونتگومری تو نوشتن داستان‌های طولانی مهارت بیشتری داره، اما بازم نمی‌شد ازش دل کند و ادامه نداد.
وجود خانواده بلایت تو خیلی از داستانا اضافی بود و انگار اتصالشون به داستان رو به زور می‌خواست نگه داره که به نظرم غیرضروری بود. با همه اینا من باید سه تا ستاره بدم، ولی نمی‌تونم این کار رو بکنم، چون اون داستانای قشنگش خیلی ۱۰/۱۰ بودن به قولی و جبرانش کردن. :)))))

I read The Blythes are Quoted (the more complete version of The Road to Yesterday). This book was closure I needed - this book - unlike so many of the other series filled in a bit of Anne and Gilbert’s relationship. Enjoyable for sure.

Me encantó volver a la Isla del Príncipe Eduardo, a pesar de que Anne no estuviera en estas historias. Sólo es mencionaba a veces, de lejos, y me divirtió ver como todos los personajes tenían en algún punto envidia de la familia Blythe jajaj. En fin, entretenido, y les va a gustar si ya leyeron toda la saga (hay spoilers incluso de "Rilla la de Ingleside"), se sienten nostálgicos y quieren algo más.

(Nota: No sabía que este libro era una versión más corta de "The Blythes are Quoted". ¡Que lío hicieron los editores! (todo porque es una obra póstuma). Es una versión tan acortada que parecen ser libros distintos, pero como "The Blythes are Quoted" no está publicado en español quizás prefieran leer este).

I took some time getting through this book. As several other books in the Anne of Green Gables series, there were short stories all in the same area/community. You get to learn a bit about the different people who live near the Blythe family. While they don't have actual stories about any of the Blythes, they are mentioned throughout the book, sometimes a little too often as if they are all so perfect too, which is a little odd, considering we know they area all filled with mishaps from the earlier books. I think that actually bothered me a lot in reading this. It gets repetitive. The stories are cute, interesting, and a little surprising at time. This one is definitely aimed more for the adult readers, instead of the more youthful readers. There are mentions of affairs and such in a few of the stories. I did enjoy a few of them, but not all of them. I am glad that I read it, as I have read all the other AoGG books, but never heard of this one until a couple years ago!

Una vez más, miss Montgomery me ha conquistado con otro libro vinculado con el mundo de Anne. En esta ocasión he leído una serie de relatos en los que en su mayoría me ha sorprendido bastante. Aunque debo reconocer que, en esta ocasión, hay relatos alegres en los que me he topado con un final feliz o sorprendente y otros eran tristes y me ha dejado la sensación en que dijese "ESO no puede terminar así". No soy partidaria de los finales tristes pero creo que fue bueno ver que no todas las historias de Glen St. Mary (la mayoría de los relatos ocurren en ese lugar y no en Avonlea tal como se titula el libro) sean precisamente todo de rosas. El único inconveniente que me he encontrado con el libro fue haberme comido un par de Spoilers, de los cuales forman parte de los sucesos de "Rilla of Ingleside", así que les aconsejo que lean este libro una vez que hayan terminado de leer por COMPLETO la saga de Anne si no quieren comerse los spoilers (de los cuales en uno me dejó tan desconsolada... Oh, God...).
Me muero por leer más libros de miss Montgomery sin importar si tiene que ver con el universo de la querida Anne o no.

P.D: Un detalle a tener bien en cuenta. No sé que diablos ha pensado la editorial cuando le pusieron el titulo al libro porque, por lo visto, no es en realidad "Further Chronicles of Avonlea"; sino que se trata de "The Blythes are quoted" y me he dado cuenta porque me acuerdo que, en su momento, había buscado información sobre la saga y había leído acerca de algunos cuentos de "Futher Chronicles of Avonlea" (de los cuales ninguno coincidía). Y digo esto solo para tenerlo en cuenta a futuro (y espero que la editorial no vuelva a cometer un error como este a futuro).

خیلی قشنگ بود. فکر نمی کردم حتی به پای مجموعه آن شرلی برسه اما داستان های قشنگی داشت که در اون اشاره هایی به آن شرلی، گیلبرت و بچه هاشون می شد و همه داستان ها حس و حال خوب قلم مونتگمری رو داشتند و از خوندنش لذت بردم
هر داستان مستقله و درباره موضوع و شخصیت خاصیه اما پایان های جذاب و اتفاقات تلخ و شیرین زیادی داشت
کلا قلم مونتگمری و دنیای قشنگی که خلق کرده که حالمون رو خوب کنه رو دوست دارم

A nice, fluffy read. Interesting--some of the details were more "adult" than the Anne series. A lot of the stories were adorable. Despite the shortage of commas, it was well-written in the true, romantic, LM Montgomery style, and I enjoyed it. It was a nice break from the heavier stuff.
