I use these book to help children identity personality traits in their peers. They will often Identify a persona with a friend in the class or at home. It's a great conversation starter with kids! Always helpful for talking about your feelings as well. Like when "how does that make you feel when ...... does this? or do you like it when .... does this?"
Apart from the fact that what she does is often mean rather than naughty this is a really cute book. Read it to Lena, whom I babysit. I had expected slightly more though.
I asked the youngest member of the household to read this aloud, and after a few lines they said "Oh no, not another villain story!" I mean, yeah, most of the books in this series counts as origin stories.
What follows is basically teaching a delinquent character through pavlov-style mind games and physical discipline to behave themselves around other people. I'm exaggerating of course but note that Little Miss Naughty exclaims in pain and her nose turns red as a result.
The youngest member of the household appreciated the pun at the end, and declared that the story was worth the read just for that.
Right upon seeing her portrait on the cover, you can tell what Little Miss Naughty is like:
* Her carefree smile, a little over the top.
* Very active little hands.
* Quite the way of walking, scampering -- and probably pestering.
Roger Hargreaves has created another original in designing this character. He's created both words and pictures, the plot and the wit and the silliness.
Just to put you in the mood, Goodreader:
Are you ever naughty?
Sometimes, I bet!
Well, Little Miss Naughty was naughty all the time.
She woke up one Sunday morning and looked out of the window.
"Looks like a nice day," she said to herself.
And then she grinned.
"Looks like a nice day for being naughty," she said.
The 'Mr Men' and 'Little Miss' books are so simple yet so effective. I love the way that all the characters are linked and how characters pop up in other stories!
The books are great for encouraging young children to read because they are interesting, have a variety of simple language and are short enough that young children don't get bored! Children love collecting all the characters too.
