This was a bit different to the previous books hitch seem to follow the same pattern. But I hated that little creature - whatever his name was - who never really got his comeuppance.
Oh how I wish I could visit the abbey of Redwall. Reading and rereading the books will have to do. Excellent writing and wonderful stories transport you to a land of peace and plenty
The Markfoxes are so creepy! They add such a bizarre, off-putting element to this story, in a good way. Otherwise, a classic Redwall take with endearing creatures and delightful descriptions.
Despite all my bellyaching about it, I finished Marlfox last night, and also despite my bellyaching, I got sucked in. They might be repetitive and trite, but it's hard not to get attached to the characters and the sweet simplicity of abbey life. I was crushed when it looked like Skipper was no more. I'm too old for this; why am I getting verklempt over anthropomorphized animals? Except for baby Dwopple. He can choke.
I’m undecided whether this is a 3 or 4 star book, but am feeling generous tonight. It’s an excellent story; but it just takes so darn long to get to the island in the middle of the huge lake! The island of the Marlfoxes is where the intrigue and excitement is, but once we finally get there everything is resolved rather swiftly. I feel like Jacques could have fleshed out that portion a lot more than he did.
