Just a classic feel good adventure that Brian Jacques is a master of writing. Plenty of feel good characters, that although not complex go through a brilliant adventure of growth and camaraderie. When I first read this book, I believe Jacques had 26 books in his series, and I considered The Long Patrol, one of the best.

Another excellent installment in the Redwall saga. It could have been even more enjoyable had the family dynamic from the beginning been used at the end, but nevertheless, an immensely entertaining read. Say what you will about the "cookie cutter" plots, but Jacques keeps finding ways to make the read fresh and keep me engaged with the story, and the sorrow I feel when characters die is proof of the connections between character and reader that Jacques helps forge. Also, I WANT MOSSFLOWER WEDGE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bad guys are bad. The good guys are good. Bad guys want to take over Redwall. Peaceful Redwallers become not so peaceful anymore and, with some help, defend the abbey. Yes, it is the same formula. The characters do not stand out. I can't distinguish them from the other books. The stories don't tie together.

The story is somewhat entertaining so I gave two stars instead of one.
