This book is about what the birthday bird does when it's your birthday. On your way out of town you will find yourself having a snack on a Smorgasbord's back. Then you'll be pulled by goats down to the flower jungle. And for lunch you will have hot dogs. Then you'll wash the mustard you have off in the "Mustard-Off" pools. Then you will get a fine present. The present will be a pet. The birthday bird will get you the tallest pet. Then you will ride something to the birthday pal-alace. And you'll have a birthday cake. Then the bird will fly you home on a very soft platter. Then you will fall fast asleep much richer and fatter because you had a great birthday.

Unfortunately, if there's any Dr. Seuss book I do not like, it is this one. Yes, it's true that you are you and that "there is no one alive who is you-er than you." Yet, how birthdays are done today just adds to the breading of the selfishness that is becoming so very prevalent today. This book just doesn't do it for me as so many other Seuss books do.

n  Today you are you! That is truer than true!
There is no one alive … who is you-er than you!

Yes, this part, I knew.
There's a whole book, too?!
Please don't mind if I do!

A supremely over-the-top birthday extravaganza,
Filled with exhilarating stanza after tongue-breaking stanza.

What more can I say?
If your kid is dead set
On getting a pet
And you aren't ready yet,
Don't enter the fray!
Read a different "dossier."

Well written and beautifully illustrated. It's a fun rhyming book for someone's birthday. It's great that it tells that You are You and there is no one alive who is you-er than you. It makes you feel special.

Read this to my son last night for his 1st birthday. Pretty fun read! Though, admittedly, some of the twistier tongue-twisters were a bit challenging to read aloud!

I am not quite sure what the purpose of this book is other than rhyming. Maybe he wanted to teach numbers?

This is a fun, cute read for any special person in your life's birthday! Especially meaningful is the concept that one's birthday celebrates the day you are you. The rhyming keeps the story moving at a quick pace and the illustrations are the usual clever Dr. Seuss.

This book is perfect for mums and dads to read to kids because it makes the perfect bedtime story. Even the character in the story falls asleep on a silver platter at the end. Not to mention the unlimited use of colour the book has unlike some of Seuss's other stories "Happy Birthday To You" has waaaay more than three colours. I loved the dreamlike washed out texture the pictures had and the rhyming that makes the story so much more easier to read and faster. The story just flows the minute you start.

Like it says in the blurb the rhyme rhythm and repetition will help younger children learn to read (and read to learn.) This is a one of Seuss' best stories it's just a shame it didn't get as much recognition as the others (The cat in the hat, the lorax ect.) Best picture book ever!

Dr.Seuss takes you through a birthday experience only a kid could dream for. Doing the wackiest and wildest things all day on your birthday. The illustrations take you with bright colors and movement throughout each page. This book is mainly for a better reader with all the funny names Seuss gives his characters.

I always have a blast reading this book to my kids, and they enjoy every syllable. One of my faves by Dr. Seuss.
