Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML was my second book in Head First series after Head First Java, 2nd Edition. Like the 1st book, this book continues the method of simple, redundant explanations that make the content stick.
The book doesn't cover all the topics but really makes sure that the reader has completely understood the topics being taught. The conversational tone of the book is great if you are learning XHTML and CSS on your own.
If you are getting started with web-designing, this book is highly recommended.

Superb. Well worth reading even if you're already pretty familiar with HTML and CSS. The first few chapters may seem a bit remedial but it quickly develops depth and does a great job explaining the right way to apply style to web pages. If you still find yourself reaching for a table to layout a page then definitely read this book. If you're just getting started, or need to recommend a book to a beginner then this should be at the top of the list - read this book and then get a good reference (like O'Reilly's Dynamic HTML).

What a fun book! I already knew a lot of the concepts they went over but the book gave me the tools I needed to take my skills one step further in the right direction. It's written in an engaging way to where you are interacting with the book. It inspired me to continue my web design studies!!

Read for an e-publishing class and used as a companion text between lectures and "Sams Teach Yourself Web Publishing with HTML and CSS". I remembered most of what I read in "Head First" so I feel this text is better than most and it's COLORFUL. Finally, someone had the smarts to print examples in color. I only have one criticism - if you're one to value a quick reference index, don't expect much, it lacks finesse.

Great book. I like the Head First series of books. These books are really good at connecting to the reader and putting content into an easy to understand "learning" read. I have given this book to my 11 year old son to begin reading. I think he will do just fine.

This was an excellent workbook to learn XHTML, HTML, and CSS. Nicely laid out with easy steps to work through. I highly recommend using this title for quickly learning the basics on web design.

This is the textbook for my first class this fall. It is the best-written computer book I've ever read, and I've read a lot of them. It was lots of hands-on exercises, it is written to accommodate many learning styles and both left and right brain, and it has a good dose of humor. Highly recommended! I will be looking for other books in this series.

Great overview of topic. Generally printed before HTML 5 so some of the information can be ignored but most will probably be similar. But then there are those old guys who have "done it this way for 30 years" that we will all work for one day.
