Great format - very easy to read and understand, and the information really sticks with you. I would recommend these Head First books to anybody interested in getting involved in working with HTML, XHTML and CSS.

Only 4 stars, however, for starting with HTML and not using strict XHTML requirements (for example, not teaching the need to close single tags until midway through the book) - why teach something and then add the caveat later that the instructions were incomplete?

If you're new to XHTML and CSS, this is the book for you. It makes sense of everything in easy to understand language. Is also great for those of us who are more visually inclined. (There are LOTS of picturs and diagrams!)

This is an excellent book for anyone looking to learn HTML, XHTML, and CSS. Even if you already know the basics of HTML it's a great book to refresh yourself.

In this book you cover the basics of HTML, XHTML, and CSS. You'll learn how to correctly create the form of your page with XHTML and correctly design your page with CSS. After you're done reading it you'll definitely be prepared to create your own website and read more books on more advanced techniques.

The Head First series is great because it's written in a way that makes your brain pay attention. It makes the task seem less daunting by presenting the information in different ways that we all can understand. They have pictures and puzzles to keep you thinking. If only every school book were written like this!

I'm going to start a petition that Head First write all textbooks, trainings, manuals, etc. It's just that good.

If you actually want to learn a topic, start with Head First.

This is a great first book for someone new to web development. The unique writing style is geared toward you actually learning the material. This book is the antithesis of a dry, technical tome that will put you to sleep. Lots of exercises and comical illustrations help to keep you engaged with the topic and also aid retention. The weakness is that you will eventually need other resources - but they tell you that right there on the book. Overall a unique and very effective take on a complex subject.

This was a great book. Although I knew a bunch of html and css, I'd never learned it in a systematic way. This book does an excellent job at that. Perhaps too long if you've already got some experience but the reinforcement is beneficial.

Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML is for sure the best book for HTML and CSS, really is what its title describes Head First, the reader can learn HTML and CSS the funny and interesting way, believe me you can read it as a fiction book also, not boring at all.
