Well since I love the musical „Spring Awakening“ I thought I might wanna give the book a go. I read it in one sitting and I really enjoyed it. Especially since I haven‘t really been reading a lot lately I‘m happy that this book surprised me so positively! It is so sexual and was most definitely a taboo back when it came out. But that‘s what makes it so interesting! God I loved it!

Ich hatte das Buch schon mal in der Schule und dementsprechend Hintergrundwissen. Ist eine wichtige Lektüre und dadurch, dass es ein Audiobook auf Spotify war, noch emotionaler.Es gab verschiedene Sprecher, die alles sehr gut vorgetragen haben. Der einzige Nachteil war halt, dass es ab und zu etwas undurchsichtig war, wer die Personen sind und an welchem Schauplatz wir sind.

I'm not probably going to write an actual review for this. It was a pretty decent musical with many themes that transcend its time and setting, so can't wait to analyze the shit out of them for class:' )

I am incredibly biased and that’s all that you need to know about this. Like there’s no objective reasoning for this- I just adore the musical and as such the play is also good.

I do think some of the changes that the musical made were for the better, but in general I still enjoyed this

This was a fun short read - a lot of sexual liberation for late 1800’s writings, and the experience of becoming a sexual being in general ~ i was astonished, everyone should read this play to really understand what was in the air before Ulysses and all that happened which basically led to the United Kingdom banning all erotic books in the 20-30’s. Guess it showed the true face of their otherwise portrayed pure victorian or Edwardian what-ever era… even though the story is written by a german of course, the whole of European culture and especially bourgeoisie class was united on all these fronts, Keeping sex out of the picture to monopolise on sex, maybe that’s some Wilhem Reich analysis right there, but seems legit in the bigger picture.. think i remember reading Brecht had a certain love for this play, which is a another quality stamp for me.

This is genuinely a good translation, but as is always the case with Jonathan Franzen, does he really have to be such an asshole about it? No translation but his is worth reading; no interpretation of the text but his is valid. Get over yourself, dude.

One of my favorite plays ever and a great, well-written story. Even though I am no longer a coming-of-age teen, this still feels really relevant and nostalgic to me with some cautionary tales that I think everyone can benefit from.

האביב מתעורר הוא טרגדיה על ילדים, שמעביר ביקורת קשה על חינוך לסקס בתקופה שבה נכתב - 1891.
המחזה עוקב אחרי 3 בני נוער: וונדלה, מלכיאור ומוריץ. הוא מראה את ההשפעה על מתבגרים כשלא מסבירים להם נושאים חשובים כמו סקס, הריון ואוננות.

"איך אני צריך לדעת? אני רואה איך התרנגולות מטילות ביצים, וגם סיפרו לי שאמא נשאה אותי מתחת ללבבה… אך האם זה מספיק?"

מלכיור יודע על מין הכי הרבה מבין השלושה. הוא למד מספרים, מציורים ומהתבוננות בטבע. לעומתו מוריץ מתמודד עם השינויים החלים בגופו ומחשבותיו ה"חולניות" מבלי לדעת מה קורה לו. הוא נסער, הוא בטוח שמשהו לא בסדר אצלו, אבל מעל לכל, הוא חש בושה עזה.

"אני חיפשתי באופן יסודי באנציקלופדיה. מילים. בסך הכל מלא מילים. אפילו לא הסבר הגיוני אחד ויחידי. הבושה הזאת! למה הבושה? מה יוצא לי מאנציקלופדיה שלא עונה על שאלות החיים הכי לוחצות?"

וונדלה מתחננת לאמה שתסביר לה איך ילדים באים אל העולם לאחר שאמה מספרת לה שאחותה נכנסה להיריון אחרי שהחסידה ביקרה אותה.

"אני מבקשת ממך, אמא'לה - דברי! אל תכעסי עלי שאני שואלת דברים כאלה. רק תני לי תשובה, איך זה קורה? איך נוצר כל זה? את לא ברצינות יכולה לדרוש ממני שבגיל ארבע עשרה אני עוד אאמין בחסידות…"

אמה לא נענית לבקשתה, וההשלכות לכך איומות.

ברור מדוע המחזה נחשב נועז בזמנו. הוא מדבר על התעוררות מינית, הומוסקסואליות, לחץ הרסני מצד הורים ומורים, אונס, מחשבות על מוות והתאבדות.

המבוגרים במחזה של וודקינד הם אטומים, מקובעים, שמרנים מאד, ואינם מושיטים עזרה לנערים גם כשאלה מבקשים מהם עזרה במפורש. והתוצאה היא כמובן טראגית.

התרגום העברי לא ידידותי בכלל, ואם ניגשים לגירסה באנגלית (המקור הוא גרמנית) מגלים שגם השפה שם ארכאית למדי. אבל זה מחזה חשוב ומטלטל שאני ממליצה לקרוא.

Ich habe Frühlingserwachen für den Deutschunterricht als Hörbuch gehört und hatte dabei gemischte Gefühle. Eigentlich lese ich gerne Klassiker, mit der Ausnahme von Theaterstücken.
Zu diesem Buch muss ich allerdings sagen, dass es heutzutage einfach nicht mehr zeitgerecht ist. Leider ist es keiner der Klassike, die zeitlos aktuell sind. Vielleicht hat es damals einen wunden Punkt getroffen, aber mittlerweile ist Aufklärung zumindest hier in Deutschland keine Problematik mehr.
Die Charaktere waren recht symphatisch und haben gut in die Thematik gepasst, der Schreibstil ist gut verständlich, aber das waren meinerseits auch schon alle Pluspunkte. Schade.

Nachtrag
