Love as Grace

As I enter retirement I have taken more time to look for direction and errors in my path. As Rev Swindoll found Grace and Grace killers, I quietly found grace, gratitude, imposition, and evasion. His research greatly benefits all related searches for truths about life in the spirit that engaged us at birth and reflects our focus after our bodies tire. Thank you Rev. Swindoll.

A really good book—especially the last three chapters. What I sometimes find challenging about books like this is that they preach freedom from religion and rules, yet between the lines, it's clear that those rules are still very much present. But the last three chapters do a great job of clarifying the author's perspective. The rules don’t exist to restrict grace; they actually amplify its power. The goal isn’t to follow every rule to the letter but to grow in faith—both in word and action—because of grace. That’s something often missing in many churches, Christian homes, and families.

Wish I had known this book was written way back when it WAS written...great insights and nice to see the implementation of Grace teaching today.

I really wanted to give this book 5 stars. The subject of grace in daily life and practice is so necessary, especially in my own life. There were a couple of chapters in the middle that I really appreciated, especially when discussing living in the victory of Jesus that is already ours and dealing with sin without shame. However, something about this book is just barely off. Swindoll often writes to beware of "grace killers" like they are the monster hiding in every church - but I read this book because I know I can be the grace killer. Swindoll also states you could go several days without sin, which I think is highly questionable. Also in his marriage chapter states that women need to "respect themselves so much" so that they can submit to their hubs, and that men need to "like themselves so much" so that they can love their wife. What. Just enough questionable theology that I enjoyed it but would not recommend it.
