I had no idea what this book was about when I started reading it, I just thought it sounded funny and liked the title. Well it turns out I didn't find this book funny at all and actually rarely smiled while reading.

Collection of the author's newspaper columns which was touted as an amusing, funny listen. I almost quit after the first disc but it did get better and the narration by Hilary Huber was very good.

Nine freaking years ago, I read another Laurie Notaro book and them added all her other books to my to-read shelf. They’ve been sitting at the top of the list FOREVER. Well, now I’m finally getting around to reading them!

I typically don't go for humor-type books along these lines, but I like Laurie Notaro.

ETA: Who the hell did I lend this to because I no longer own it?

I had to give up on this one less than half-way through. I enjoyed the last Laurie Notaro book I read and perhaps was just not prepared for this one. It's much raunchier. This book takes place before Laurie is married...so maybe it's an age/maturity thing? All I know is I couldn't continue to read chapter after chapter dealing with hangovers, barfing, etc. A couple times = funny. Incessantly - not so much. That being said, I enjoy Laurie's sense of humor in general and look forward to trying some of her other books in the future. This one just wasn't for me.

i loved this book. probably because most of the things notaro writes about doing are eerily familiar to my own idiot girl adventures. her stories are hilarious, and incredibly real-most of us don't want to admit the things she is sharing with the world! she has a knack for making readers empathize with her ridiculous situations-and a knack for making us laugh!!

So fun. Humorous and real, entertaining and fast reading. A great vacation/airplane read. Good to as a pick me up.

Hilarious! For anyone who needs a pick-me-up book that you can pick up and put down. Notaro's wry wit and humor are often perverse but always memorable.

Laurie Notaro has put together a funny collection of what seems to be columns from her newspaper work. Some are laugh-out-loud (the candy apple incident, and Laurie explaining Monica Lewinsky's escapades to her grandmother!); some are mildly uncomfortable. Some I related to immediately (ashes of the old lady left in her house by an ex-boyfriend -- you'll have to ask me for specifics!); some I got tired of -- all the drinking stories. But she created some memorable characters, especially the little sisters, nicknamed 'the midgets' who try to adopt Laurie because their own mother seems to be a real loser. Notaro's voice is distinct and she speaks for many of us in these pieces.

The author is a gag inducing disaster. Like the dirty girl on that one Friends ep, except she's aware, which might be worse, but that's why it's funny. She might try a little too hard to be funny and shameless but i'm not mad about it and I got a good laugh, should I feel bad? Plus, I like that she lives in a regular city.
