Most of her anecdotes were amusing and funny, but I just couldn't get past all her hyperboles and racist/stereotypical jokes. Couldn't quite bring myself to rate it a 3 because it was more like a 2.5 for me.

Imagine that you have a friend who wants to call and rant about stupid things she has done and things that make her mad. That is pretty much what this book is like. It is funny, but I think I was looking for more of a story, or something more cohesive. Some of the essays were a little too self-deprecating. I wouldn't say I disliked it as a whole, but I didn't like it enough that I will be reading more by this author.

Once again, Laurie Notaro has succeeded in revealing her personal tales in such a way as to have me laugh so hard that my eyes tear up. It's hard to believe that someone can have so many hysterical moments in her life - or maybe it's just the way she chooses to view those moments.

Short and funny essays. I enjoyed this book, some of the stories were super funny, but not as many as I would hope from a comedy book. I would still recommend it, there are plenty of laughs to be had.

This is a funny book. I think Notaro is the female, book version of Seinfeld. The book isn't really about anything, but it's darn funny. I particularly enjoyed the Booty Call (it's not what you think) and Squinky Eye chapters.

A true pleasure to read this nonfiction book that takes a look at the maniacal rantings of an author who I wish was my best friend. We could raid chocolate stores together while hoarding books and trying our best to do good unto others but failing miserably. I laughed outloud reading this and I was sorry to see it be over when I hit the last page. A true comic and a wonderful writer, Notaro gets to the heart of every woman's insecurities with humor and laughter and the understanding that we really truly are all more the same than different. Bravo!

I have read this before, but I recently read It looked Different on the Model (also an older book) so I went back to this one too. It was as funny as I remembered. The stories are relate-able if you are a bit crazy, and if you aren't I probably don't want to know you. And made me laugh so hard it was not safe to read in public.

This is the first book by Notaro that I read and it's my favorite of hers. I think my favorite essay was the one where she is at the gym and an eight year old makes naughty gestures at her. Although the one about her book reading might be my favorite. Heck, they're all great!

Too many body shaming statements about herself & other women. Those parts weren't funny - they just made me sad.

The passages where the author is authentic work very well. But, there is such a strain to be funny that it undercuts her writing.

I heard Laurie Notaro at a reading recently & really liked her. She was the funniest author at the event & her reading from her new book was hilarious. This is one of her older books & I read it on a whim for free via the public library. It's okay, not great. This is a good book for traveling when you need something light, funny & doesn't require a lot of concentration. I'm going to give her another chance & read her newest book.

I happened upon this book at a garage sale and picked it up only because it was a title my sister had mentioned to me before. It had me laughing from the very beginning. It's simply a collection of short stories in Laurie Notaro's life. And while the first half was hilarious and kept me up late into the night, the second half of the book felt lacking and I seldom found myself laughing out loud (though the stories did keep my attention and warranted a smile every now and then). Overall a good quick read, but I wish the second half was as strong as the first.
