Do you ever laugh so hard when you're reading that others far away from you look in wonder? Or something? Perhaps pull their children closer to themselves. This is what occurs when I read Laurie Notaro's work. I haw, haw, haw out loud. Not just a snicker; not just a good chuckle; but an honest to Betsy howl of fun.

Always fun to reread, too. I had lost my place in this book and just opened it up and started reading the other day. Enjoyed what I'd already read all over again. Fun, Fun, Fun. I loved it.

You know those books that can be dissected, analyzed and viewed in multiple perspectives? This isn't one of them.

This is the kind of book that can be read in between chores, at lunch or on the ride to work. Short essays that are so funny you'll cry and then call your mom and tell her you aren't the only one who's ever went to class with their underwear hanging out of the bottom of their jeans because you were too tired to dress and just put on what you wearing the night before and when that snotty chick that you just knew was silently judging you all year pointed out said panties, you gave her a look that made her think SHE was the slob, pulled the panties out of your pants, dropped them in the trash, reminded her that there was a reason Tiny Tim was an unsung hero and walked away promising God you would never drink again. Or, maybe that one's just me, but you get the picture.

I loved this. I laughed out loud so many times. This book is perfection.

It was pretty amusing! I liked the humor in it but about halfway through it was kind of like reading the same chapters over again (just a little different). There were definitely parts that I cracked up out loud but I did grow bored after a while. I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a nice comical read...but if you want something that really holds your attention...that you can live in...this is not for you.

"I'm not exactly a people person. Not exactly. You see, when I was born, God gave me an ounce of patience that was supposed to last me a lifetime, but it turns out I used all of it up during the first week."

"If T.S. Eliot had lived in my house, Cats would have never existed; instead, there would now be a touring company of the musical I've Got the Sack, You Bring the Rock, and We'll Meet Down by the Creek."

"I Love Everybody as Long as I'm Alone in My House."

This book was hilarious. I loved every page of it. I feel a kinship with Notaro in how I tend to biting and sarcastic about a lot of life (though she certainly has me beat). I carpool with my family to work and this book was banned from the car since I lack the ability to sit and read it quietly and NOT laugh out loud. I highly recommend this for anyone who's looking for sidesplitting laughter.

I love these books. But, like so many others.. I picked it up when my baby was a newborn and it has since gotten lost on a bookshelf, unfinished. I will pick it up again when I'm ready to read adult things. ;)

This woman is laugh out loud funny! Be forewarned that she's not at all shy about discussing bowel movements, mistakes and/or comments that she made in situations that are enough to make me squirm with empathetic embarassment and she throws in some swear words here and there but is not the kind of author that thinks there must be swear words to be funny, well, in this book anyway.

I've read three of her books and have more on hold, she's funny. A little bit of a modern Erma Bombeck. If you enjoy Celia Rivenbark, you should enjoy her also.

There is no denying that Laurie Notaro is emotionally immature (as am I) but she revels in it and claims it as her own. I can't decide if she is an idiot (as she self-identifies) or is a genius. To be as emotionally stunted as she is in her writing, one would think you would have to be not terribly self-aware, yet her ability to step back and describe her own actions suggests she is well-aware of what is going on and is milking it for laughs. It is hard to "write funny" and not everyone is going to share your sense of humour, but Notaro captures a sense of fun and a pissed-off approach to life that is endearing, even if it isn't always laugh out loud funny. I like her stuff (and don't always like much of the so-called humorous chick-lit that is out there).

I adored Notaro’s first collection (of essays? Recollections? Psychotic episodes?), and this one is more of the same. Oddly, I read Idiot Girl way back in my mid-20s, when I was still fumbling with the idea of grad school and what to do when I grew up. Now that I’m in my early-30s, I Love Everybody embodies the kinds of issues I’m going through (albeit, without the "supportive" hubby in tow). Neurotic, snarky, self-obsessed and hilarious, Notaro is how I hope to come off on a bad day, but know it’s more likely how I am on my best days. Well worth it, especially if you’re caught between wondering at the idiocy of the world and the uncertainty of the future.

2-1/2 star review. I laughed so hard while reading the first chapter, I was sure this was going to be one of my favorite books. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Some of the stories were laugh-out loud funny, but those were few and far between. The only reason I wanted to finish this book was not that I enjoyed it so much, but that I just wanted to be done with it. I also agree with many of the reviews I have read - editing seemed non-existent.

I stumbled upon this audiobook when I was searching through Libby looking for funny reads. There were a ton of moments when I cracked up, especially when she talked about The Sims. I immediately added all her other books to my to be read list and I am hoping she reads the audio versions. I enjoyed the book even more because she talked about Arizona.
