When I think of female humor writers, my mind comes up with Laurie Notaro and Jen Lancaster first, probably because they are young enough for me to understand what they are talking about even if they are a little older than me. I mean, I love Jill Conner Browne but she has decades on me instead of just over a decade on me. Anyway, Notaro is definitely my girl. I love Lancaster but Notaro understands what it means to have to glue down everything in your yard and house. She has animals that poop jelly beans on her desk. She knows how to work the Costco sample system.

This was a great book. At this point, it's been years since I read Idiot Girl's Action Adventure Club and I feel like I need to go back and re-read it before moving on. Notaro is a Loudmouth Girl. She says the things that we all think. Her brain reminds me distinctly of my own. She has a tendency to go off on angry and hilarious rants. I laughed out loud, literally, and read bits and pieces to my boyfriend who now thinks that I may be crazy.

This was a great read and I can't wait to read the next one!

I didn't finish this. Not only didn't I finish it, but I didn't get very far in at all. I'd say 50 pages tops to be honest.
Maybe I'm just not the type who appreciates Notaro's humor, maybe it's the mood I've been in this week, I'm not sure. Whatever it was, besides a few chuckles, I just didn't read anything I thought was very funny.
She seems to write well and I can see how people like her books. I got the clear impression she'd be funny as hell to hang around, but reading her words just didn't do it for me so I'm on to something else.

I have nothing else to say other than i never disliked a book as much as i disliked this. I literally forced myself through it. It was a waste of time.

Although this book had some laugh at loud moments, it's really just a woman kvetching about everyday issues. Things happen, suck it up, Laurie.

So I was reading this on the beach and I had to shut the book and look away just to stop my body from shaking with laughter. Laurie Notaro is my hero. I love her because she writes about the crazy things we all do that we'd rather not have anyone else know about. I love her because she cannot change who she is no matter how good her intentions may be. She's the craziest normal person I've ever met/read. Can't wait to read her other books!

Laurie is one of my favorite authors and people.
The fact I am an idiot girl through and through makes no difference, even if I were one of those perfect girls (or boys!) I'd still love her and her books. It would be impossible not to. She and David Sedaris have to arm wrestle for the top spot for Noelle's out-loud-stuff-gushing-from-nose-guffaws.

She is so funny - a breath of fresh air to just pick up and enjoy (and have by your bedside table and read one or two before you head to bed - especially after reading deeper, more difficult books). Lots of funny stories from her crazy life. I like that she is so self-absorbed, but yet self-deprecating - kind of why I love David Sedaris. I wish I would have seen her at our Get Lit! Festival here. Recommended.

What is there to say? This was another so-so hit or miss collection of essays from Laurie Notaro. After reading 'We thought you'd be prettier,' I figured I had to give her one more try to win me over - but again, I was disappointed. I actually think that I rolled my eyes more times than I laughed. I'm going to stick with Burroughs when I'm looking for outrageous situations and witty reflections. Thanks for trying, Notaro.

I was very disappointed, especially after hearing how funny she is from my co-workers. You just can't trust people.

This book of short stories about the authors life, ( I am pretty sure this is non-fiction anyway) was an ok read for me. It was full of short stories and some were funny but most were just ok for me. I can relate to some of these but most of them I just wanted to put it down and go read something that had some depth to it.

I did not finish reading this. Maybe if I listened the author tell these stories in person I'd find them hysterical... but on the page it comes across serious rather than sarcastic/exaggerated and I ended up disliking the author so much that I put the book down and didn't pick it back up.

I've got to give this book five brilliant stars! This is Laurie Notaro at her funniest, for sure. Ever since Idiot Girls' made me convulse with laughter in public, I've been a fan. But I like this book better than the first two combined. I'd give it six stars if I could. I was a retired Idiot Girl when I found the first book, so there was a lot I could relate to from my `previous life.' I was married for 7 years before the second. But with the exception of having children, this is a book that I can really relate to. It shows us a slightly more grown up, but funnier-than-ever Laurie. People, if you're not laughing at these stories -- out loud (and possibly in public places with fluids squirting out of your nose) -- you're just one of the people that Laurie "loves" so much. It's okay, if you don't get it, because we need people like you in the world so Laurie can help us laugh at you! Why hasn't Hollywood scooped her up and given this smart, talented and hilarious woman her own TV show?? She's funnier than any sitcom I've seen since Seinfeld! I love everybody, too. I really do.
