Really outdated thinking in most of the interpretation of dreams in this book. Not really worth finishing in my humble opinion. There are so many other great books that delve into dreams and what their possible meanings could be.

Painfully, disappointingly bad. I found this in my library's psychology section, with hopes of broadening my understanding of some new symbols in my sleep. You'd have better luck understanding your dreams if you opened a bag of fortune cookies. I am usually not so harsh, but the descriptions in this book are so vague and short that there is no real applicability to dream analysis. If you've read a more comprehensive and realistic dream book, such as Dictionary of Dreams by Rose Inserra, this one will be of little use to you.

I had high hopes for this book but they were mostly crushed by this book's seeming little knowledge of psychology. I was a little disappointed by this book.

I like this book is because it talks about the different types of dreams there are.

I don't know how accurate the dreams interpretations are, but it's always fun to go through the book. Every house should own at least 1 dream dictionary!

Reason I read this book is not to interpret the dreams, but rather see mental connection of dreams, thoughts and how mind will solve them. I do agree that dreams set up a mood for the day and people tend to act on their mood, but dreams do help to solve problems even in a sleeping stage. This can be even observed in interpretation of dreams:
To Dream of being chased by a monster - you will suffer great misfortune.
To slay a monster you will gain success in your deeds.
Study has been done that the person that has been playing ski on simulator and was failing, after sleeping person gained some percentage on it.
So sleep up guys.

Completely lost interest; did not finish. There is a way to go about studying and writing about dreams, but the introduction reeked of junk science and un-falsifiable claims.

Great dream reference introduced to me by a former roomie. Biblical refrences. I miss picking it off her shelf after a night of dreaming. Time is overdue for me to get my own copy!

I'm deeply fascinated by dreams. The photos and much of the information contained in the book was interesting. I don't know where they get the material, but most of the symbols seemed to match up with truth.

"to dream of seeing cars, denotes journeying and changing in quick succession." ain't say nothing about car crash....

I didn’t enjoy the interpretations enough to read each and every one but I feel like I already have more than enough observations to say I have read this book.

The version I had my hands on says it was a reprint published in 1984. The language in this book definitely seems older than 39 or 40 years! I found that, like reading a dictionary, there were many words to learn. Terms seem outdated. Furthermore, within the dream interpretations, ideas I could glean seemed old fashioned to say the least.

Some things I’m left wondering:

-It seems like one could make a project of finding how many interpretations were negative versus positive. I’m thinking there were more negative meanings but was that my own bias?

-How many people eat in their dreams? It seemed there were so many food entries!

-For some reason, the name Derrick was in the book but I didn’t see any other names except for biblical characters such as Christ, Eve, and Moses. What’s the author’s connection to a Derrick? It sounds like they were perceived as a bad boss or annoying colleague as an obstruction to success.

Unfortunately no explanations are given for any interpretations. To me a lot of it just seemed random. I couldn’t even see a pattern among the food entries. Eating perfectly healthy food could denote: poor success and debilitating health (pears) or that you will follow worthless pursuits (pickles). On the opposite spectrum, eating healthy food could mean good health and prosperity (carrots, cucumbers) or taking a sensible view of life (garlic).

As you may find, with expressions such as worthless pursuit and sensible view, the author comes across as judgemental in many of their interpretations. I don’t believe I would want them judging my dreams/ predicting my future…

Why I give the book more than one star…
The book’s preface expressed the idea about the power of dreams to predict the futures. It was interesting how the author talked about prophets to illustrate this as well as referring to different proverbs and philosophies on thoughts in general.

The author did express this idea on dream interpretation that seems more reliable than their individual interpretations:

A wise doctor, in preparing medicine for a patient, considers well his age, temperament and his present condition. So should the interpreter of dreams ponder well the mental state, the health, habits and temperament of the dreamer.

Furthermore, I will pay some respect to the format of the book. It’s hard to get more well structured than alphabetically ordered, complete with index to find page reference!
