This book takes us back in time in the history of the owls of Hoole to the creation of the first owl to tame fire (the first collier). Pretty solid, although not one of my favorites. Perhaps just because I'm so attached to the characters from the first eight books.

Love this new point of view and story telling! It truly does feel like someone is reading to me in bed a magical, beautiful story filled with the breathtaking wonders of new discoveries, dark wars, and the strength of faith and heart.

At first, I was a little skeptical about this book POV not being Soren or Coryn, but Grank showed up as a great teller. I had no idea so much chaos and suffering had preceded Hoole's hatching. I'm curious about the next book and what happened to Siv.

Had a weird wind echo on the audiobook. I couldn’t finish it because it was so distracting. Other than that it was fine story wise.

I love this book series, and highly recommend to kids. The first three in the series I particularly enjoyed. But I read them all as I loved the premise.

I thought that the beginning was slow, but it turned out to be a good book. I was surprised that Nyra was actually a hagsfiend.

LOVED this book too. I was thinking this book might be less interesting since the members of The Band wouldn't really be playing a role in the plot and this was basically the background story of the famous "legends of ga'hoole" referenced in the other books. However, the story was great, the plot was good, it was full of action, and by the end of the book you already love Grank and Siv just as much as any of the members of The Band. I can't wait to get the other two books from this part of the series and get more of the background on Hoole growing up and becoming king.

This is the of 3 books that goes back to tell the earlier part of the story, the history of the owls. While it was interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing how this applies to the "present day" story, as the book hints that it will.

Found it hard to get through these ones. They were good, but not the story I wanted.

I understand from like a narrative perspective why they put the histories/prequels in the middle of the series but I still think it’s messy

the worldbuilding in this series is just...ridiculously intricate though, like seriously impressive

It's weird, there's really nothing about this book that's worse than any of the other onez I just did not like it as much-
Maybe because I'm done with the arcs I was actually looking forward to lol
