My son loved these! He read them in about 3rd grade. I didn't share his love, but then I'm an adult and I experienced the story from a totally different point of view (I mean, fighting owls??! It was hard for me to get into.) I was willing to let him read whatever it took to get him to reading fluently and I was just happy to see him immersed in a book.

This series just keeps getting better and better, and the depth of it is astounding. Don't knock this one just because it is geared to a much younger audience. This series is good.

I remembered this one, because of how good it was, and that still holds true. This is one of the best ones in the series!

The Guardians of Ga'Hoole are in trouble. Saint Aggie's has fallen to the Pure Ones. Soren and the Band must teach the owls of Saint Aggie's who want to take back what is theirs. Also, Ezylryb has sent them to recruit his comrades from the battle of the Ice Claws. But with the Pure Ones numbers ever growing, and many obstacles standing in their way, can the Guardians of Ga'Hoole win the final battle?

The irony of Twilight being the one to slaughter Kludd was fantastic. The readers are taunted by Soren's doubt he can kill him and in a flash, bam, he's dead, via Twilight slashing him from throat to tail. No taunt or anything. The fact the St. Aggie's birds are now with Soren's team is very backhanded. I hated it.

Downside is...the book was very... dry? I felt as if nothing was building up. I read the book in about 35 minutes due to the lack of sustenance. The book seemed carried by the characters alone. This book could easily have ended the series but... glances at the next ten titles that's not the case.

Guardians of Ga'Hoole #6: The Burning

SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW, BE WARNED!
First of all, this is an amazing book. Character development is amazing, and there are some unexpected twists such as Gylfie being taken hostage and Twilight killing Kludd in the end. However, for a final battle this book is considerably less bloody than it could have been but that is probably for the best. UPDATE: I checked and it is actually as bloody as "hagsmire." However, I think the victory of the Guardians was too complete. The fire could have burned down the tree of Ga'Hoole and Kludd could have at least wounded Soren before Twilight killed him. Kludd is supposed to be OP. Great book tho.
