One of the better books in the series. It gets quite exciting.

I finished the last 100 or so pages curled up in my bed half-asleep so I'm pretty sure I missed like 50% of this book but it's fine because I didn't enjoy it. I didn't find the storyline to be particularily intresting this book, it felt kind of flat and boring. I feel like the series should end here because our main villian is dead now?

Out of the first 6 books, this one is the most exciting to read.
Introducing a new fantasy language to the story really entices you to read more in the hope of learning new words and phrases.

Like many other fantasy series, this particular book has individuals who have taken a vow of silence to further deep-dive into self knowledge. We have seen it in ‘The Mortal Instruments’ series, and we have also seen it in the ‘A Game Of Thrones’ series. Nothing new with this idea.

Although the story in this book is my favourite out of this series so far, it does have a couple of punctuation mistakes, which is why it gets a 4/5.

My favorite part was when the Pure Ones were defeated becasue Twilight killed Kludd. I was expecting something to happen like the GaHoole tree burning down because of the title, and the picture that is on the cover of the book, but it didn't. My least favorite part was when Gylfie got captured by the pirates before the owls returned to the Southern Kingdoms. Luckily, Twilla helped her to escape, and then Gylfie managed to get some owls from the Northern Kingdoms to fight with them, which porobably the reason why the owls managed to defeat the Pure Ones.

Once again, the Chaw of Chaws must accomplish an impossible mission to save the owl kingdom. From recruiting the warriors of the Kielian League to create a plan to defeat the Pure Ones, these brave owls demonstrate once more why this series is so awesome.

I can't wait to discover whether Kludd's son will be an evil master as his parents or a bird fated for glory and peace.

Mini summary: Soren and the Chaw of Chaws travel to the Northern Kingdom to recruit the owls that fight with Ezylryb in the War of the Ice Talons; Gylfie and Otulissa study fleckasia; Martin and Ruby talk with the old commander and trainer of the Kielian snakes; Soren and the rest try to get Moss, a friend of Lyze of Kiel, to help them; Gylfie get kidnapped by pirates but escapes thanks to Twilla, the owl that takes care of Ifghar, turnfeather and brother of Ezylryb; Ifghar and his snake pretend to betray the guardians; the owls of the Great Ga'Hoole Tree fight against the Pure Ones with the help of the northern birds and Soren's brother is murdered.

What a book, the war is here. Who will win and will it mean the end of the pure ones? Very exciting read, lots going on.

I would say this book was ok. Not one of the best books the author has written but not everything can be perfect. Soren and the band have to go to the Northern Regions to fetch comrades to fight the Pure Ones. I personally think Nyra would be a better antagonist since in my opinion she is much smarter than Kludd. The Pure Ones being a massive group of owls with the word tyto in their scientific name. (Tyto alba, tyto multipunctata, tyto almae, etc.). As the group wishes for a world with no owls other than tyto breeds, as they call it, "pure". I really think this book's story was kind of slow. Not much happened in the plot except for some minor occurrences, although this book is probably a connection from one to another big event explaining why its story was quite slow.

tImagine, you are a Barn Owl leading the most proficient team of recently promoted Guardians over a vast sea called Hoolemere into the dangerous and unpredictable land of the Northern Kingdoms. This is the view of Soren, one of the many main characters in Kathryn Lasky’s The Burning.

tIn the prologue, the Chaw of Chaws (chaw can mean team or class, but in this case it means team) receives their Guardian Ceremony, which gives them full recognition as Guardians of Ga’hoole after they swear to do certain things, such as to never seek out a crown. The chaw includes: Soren, a Barn Owl from the Forest of Tyto, is leader of the chaw and is trained as a collier (a gatherer of coals for the forge) and therefore had to learn weather interpretation, as fire and storms are connected to one another. He “fell” out of his nest at an early age and was captured by a St. Aggie’s patrol and met Gylfie, who had been captured by the patrol earlier. Gylfie is an Elf Owl from the Desert of Kunneer, which neighbors the Forest of Tyto, flies navigator. She is Soren’s best friend has known Soren almost all her life. Twilight, a huge Great Grey Owl, is trained doing search-and-rescue. He was orphaned by the St. Aggie’s patrol as soon as soon as, or before, he hatched and is completely self-taught through what he calls the “Orphan School of Tough Learning”. His skills include fighting, righting one’s self when hanging upside-down (which he used his knowledge of to help Gylfie after she and Soren escaped St. Aggie’s) and many other things. Digger, a Burrowing Owl, is a tracker, but he is often philosophizing and can be very tolerant. Soren found him after mistaking Digger’s heartbeat for that of a mouse. Martin, a plucky Northern Saw-whet Owl who is often emphasizing his lack of size, Otulissa, a prim and proper Spotted Owl of prim and proper heritage (who won’t shut her beak), is the very owl who planned the invasion of the Pure Ones to avenge the death of her beloved Strix Struma (an old Spotted Owl whom Otulissa practically worshipped), and Ruby, a somewhat impatient Short-eared Owl who is a great flier, are all colliers who arrived at the Great Tree at the same time as the band ( Soren, Gylfie, Digger, and Twilight). Eglantine, Soren’s sister, was captured by the Pure Ones, a group led by Kludd, Soren and Eglantine’s older brother, that believes that only Barn Owls are “pure”, after St. Aggie’s took Soren. She, like Twilight, is search-and-rescue, and she often ends up in trouble. The mission at hand: take Dewlap, an old, retired Burrowing Owl who was ryb (teacher), to the Glauxian Sisters’ Retreat, then divide and recruit forces to fight alongside the Guardians in the upcoming invasion. Will the Chaw of Chaws recruit enough forces? Will the invasion succeed? Read the book to find out.
tMy favorite thing about this book is that it’s easy for you to look at things from any character’s point of view, or just make one up like I did. For me it was a peregrine falcon named Ghidarian who was caught up in owlish matters. That was one of the factors that kept me glued to the book, just the presence of the falcon I made up.
tI would recommend this book to people of either gender age 10 or older who likes fantasy, fiction, action, adventure, and/or owls and has read books 1-5. There is the occasional use of the H word, but technically that’s a place, and owl cussing is prominent, but it means nothing in English.
