Roald Dahl, you dirty old man! This book is full of sex! But funny quirky sex, like you'd imagine Roald Dahl might write.
A man tells the story of how he became rich. The story involves a scheme to sell "Blister Beetles" which produce a very strong Viagra-like effect, a second scheme to procure, freeze and then sell the sperm of the world's most famous men and a final return to the beetles as he builds his fortune. The characters are all brilliant, just like his characters from the children's books only they talk about and have a lot more sex.
It gets slightly repetitive after a while (the man even comments on this himself) which is why I've not given it 4 stars but it came close. 3.5 I reckon.

Trying too much to be funny, so cheap that even a chapter made me regret the wasted time on the reading.

Charlie and the chocolate factory if Willy Wonka was a Don Juan billionaire and had seduced all the oompa loompas??? Not a children’s book lol - surreal and pretty funny

You guys! Roald Dahl is dirty! Dirty dirty dirty! This is my first go at reading his adult stories and I must say, I did enjoy it. Excellent back stage reading. This translates into being easy enough to pick up and put down at odd intervals and read in the dark, but also having content that is compelling enough to keep you interested while your ears are hearing the same play for the 27th time being screamed just on the other side of the curtain. I wasn’t quite sure about how he treated his lady characters basically putting them in a situation to be raped repeatedly, but I suppose she went there by choice with the goal of stealing their semen, so maybe it’s OK. Still, some of the scenes were pretty sexually violent in a frightening way. I don’t know that I can ever read James and the Giant Peach again without thinking dirty thoughts. Dirty! Roald Dahl, you are dirty.

.

No lo recomiendo.

Like several generations of children before me, I grew up voraciously consuming the books of Roald Dahl. Dahl's writings for children have remained consistently popular - and controversial - over the years, because Dahl understood something profound about the nature of children: that they are instinctually cruel, petty, and vindictive, unless someone is on hand to teach them otherwise. Dahl's books heartily indulge all of the former impulses, while also gently tempering them lessons in the latter. Now, most fans of Matilda and James & the Giant Peach are probably unaware that Dahl also wrote books for adults. I knew, but save for a memoir, I had never read one until now. I regret to inform that adult-oriented Dahl is not as much fun as I had hoped. Certainly, this short novel is gleefully raunchy, and does its best to match the spirit of irreverence that the author is so known for. Perhaps if I had read it at age 12, I would have gotten a bigger kick out of it. Setting aside that the central conceit - a pair of unscrupulous scoundrels use a powerful aphrodisiac to surreptitiously collect sperm samples from great and famous men - hasn't aged well... set that aside, and there's actually quite a bit of comedy in the idea of a sex-crazed Proust or Puccini. The problem is that it doesn't go far enough. Maybe I've contracted brain-rot living on a diet of Rule 34, but I was expecting that smut written by Roald Dahl to be a lot more outrageous. Where are the Oompa-Loompah orgies? When do we find out what the Witches do in the boudoir? There's just no sense of magic.

This book was a cracking read just because of what a character Oswald is. It’s definitely not one that you should give to your kids, though. Not a lot of people realise that Dahl also wrote for adults, but this one is also adult-themed.

We’re talking about a ton of sex, literally oozing out of every page. It all starts with Oswald creating a pill that’s basically like a super powerful Viagra, giving people sustained erections that basically set their loins on fire.

It’s a lot of fun to read, but it’s also super X-rated and is essentially a forerunner to a lot of the bizarro fiction and erotica that we see on the market today. It’s about as far from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as it’s possible to get.

But I did think that it was a delightful read and one that I had a lot of fun with, even though it was also super dirty at times. It did make me feel a bit like a sleazy old man, but then maybe I am a sleazy old man. And that’s what I thought.

I still can't believe I found this book in Children's section, I wouldn't be too surprised in some cases, but this is American library. Knowing how everybody's freaking out about children + sex topic, I was more than shocked.
This book is lavishly but bluntly written about fucking (I am not going to say "love making", there was no love making, just simple fucking). And a funny twist of how viagra and artificial insemination could have started.
I probably would have enjoyed this book much more If I were a young teenager just learning about my sexual desires (yes, I was reading a lot of such books in those days and it was glorious!). So maybe it's not a bad idea to put this book in Children's section - they're the only ones who can really enjoy such book (and secretly educate themselves about sex, sort of!).
I probably would recommend this book to die-hard fans of "Fifty Shades of Grey", just to inform them that there are more pornographic books (and no matter how trashy - still much better).

I kind of regret not taking the time to review this book when I first finished reading it. Since it was quite some time ago – around two years, if I'm not mistaken – main part of the plot is kind of gone and I'm now left with my overall impression of this book. I remember loving it. I knew Roald Dahl was brilliant when, 8 years old and just finished with Matilda, I decided it was too good a book and promised myself I'd never read a translated book again. So to this day I still owe him a great deal.
Back to the book, it's Dahl for adults. It's the story of uncle Oswald who discovers some viagra–like remedy in one of his adventurous trips around the world and thinks of a genius way to use it – the word 'genius' here refers to more than it looks. Brilliantly witty and sexy it will have you hooked to the very last page.
