Let's start with the publishers:
1. The brilliant idea of breaking the match the following to different pages.
2. The outstanding idea of breaking words with hyphen in lines where spelling needs to be checked.

Then onto the content:
An excellent book on forming an etymological vocabulary and thinking of words. This has allowed me to estimate more precisely the meaning of new words wherever I see them and also helped in developing my vocabulary.

My review
Title: The title “Word Power made Easy” is so perfect and totally justified as per the content.
Cover: The cover is to the point without any unnecessary drama and gives us a clear picture of what is there for us.
Blurb: The blurb portion is written and edited well. It asks some direct questions to the reader whereby it’s easy to understand of what the book has to offer.
Content: This is an exclusive book and you won’t be getting another second piece of it like this kind. It is a thick book over 700 pages. It is the best and quickest means to better vocabulary in the English language. Each chapter ends with a review. Each section ends with a progress check. Numerous tests will help you to increase and retain your knowledge you acquired. This book does more than adding words in your vocabulary. It teaches ideas and methods of broadening knowledge as an integral part of vocabulary building process. You don’t just read this book rather you have to practice this book. The more time you give the more enriching your experience will be. Once you complete the book you will no longer be the same person, your knowledge will enhance a lot. I recommend this book to everyone no matter for which competitive exams you are preparing. It will add to your success in the long run.

This book gives you the ideology on things and a proper word for our feeling to express.

With wast etymology, you can understand how the words were made of and also you can have the ability to form a new one.

Apart from that, you would know more about the personality, emotions, behavior, expression, and gestures about the people's to understand their expertise with a strong vocabulary.

A must read for each one of us.

Once you understand the roots, you can never forget the meaning of even the most difficult words.

The whole book is divided into various sessions. These sessions have ideas, origins and related words with exercises. After each session, if you have been attentive, there isn’t a chance to forget the meanings of the words from that session. I am in love with the perspicacity of the book!

I urge you all read this..This would really enrich your vocabulary and your pronunciations.

Happy reading..

It wasn't that enjoyable when I was reading it. But looking back, I actually learned a lot. This book taught me so much about the English language, and as someone who has English as their second language, it clarified a lot of things and made me see patterns that I have never noticed before. The only thing I want to say about this book is that I think it should be called "Word power made hard" because it was pretty hard, and I already forgot many things they talked about in the book (because it was very long). So I guess I should consider reading it again.

Highly recommended to those who wish to improve their vocabulary, discover new words and to those who wish to realize the fact that they have been speaking Greek and Latin their entire lives without even noticing it.
DO NOT be intimidated by the number of pages. It is really intuitive and will keep you occupied for hours. Definitely beneficial if you are planning to give exams like SAT, GRE, GMAT, CAT etc.

The book deals with a very mundane topic: teaching you a few 100 or even 1000
new words. Making such a book engaging is very difficult task for any author. I
think Norman Lewis did Justice to the subject.

This is one of those books everyone starts but no one finishes. Its got a lot to
do with the subject under consideration as well. Unless you have a compelling
reason to finish this, its going to be difficult. Even though the book is really
thick and intimidating at first, there are tons of exercises as well as a large
dictionary in the end as an appendix, which makes the book seem a lot longer
than it actually is. Let that not worry you.

The approach taken in the book is highly effective. A bunch of related words are
grouped into a short chapter. The 2 chapters that follow analyzes the etymology
of the words in depth, introducing a lot of new similar words in the process.
Frequent repetitive exercises help you remember the words. 3 long tests help you
quantify the progress.

Reading this book in sixth grade was one of the best and worst things to happen to middle school me. One of the best, because it made me fall in love with words. One of the worst, because I learned many big ones and started stuffing everything I wrote with them. And I got handsomely rewarded for it! My school library ran a contest on writing book reviews, and my using words like "unputdownable" (which I cribbed from a Dan Brown book cover) and "scintillating" won me a prize, I think. Obviously, as much as I recommend that everyone entering high school read this book, they should also be taught that writing simply is a virtue.

Most readers of this book have mercenary objectives -- learning more words, using them to ace standardized tests. And they've picked exactly the right book! Etymology is an incredibly powerful tool for expanding your vocabulary, and for guessing -- correctly -- what words you've never seen before mean. Most schools and coaching institutes for competitive exams in India advise students to read general books to expand their vocabularies. I think this is bad advice. My single favorite language contest, which pits high schoolers and undergrads against each other in Scripps Spelling Bee-style etymology games, was founded on this premise. Reading is important, yes, but for different reasons. Learning a handful of root words and suffix/prefix patterns is far more bang-for-your-buck.

This book is also a joy to read. Lewis' writing sparkles with wit.

The book is a collection of all the words that fit to the theories of the author that you can derive the meaning of the word from its roots unfortunately you end up confusing yourself. This is a very bad way of trying to improve your vocabulary!
