Alex Cross transfers to the FBI. In training at Quantico, Virginia, Cross is pulled from classes to work on cases. It doesn't make him popular.

Someone is buying and selling people. His name is Wolf, and he's mean.

Short 500 word chapters and fast paced scenes, make Patterson's book enjoyable.

Nana, Damon, Jannie, little Alex and not to forget, Rosie the cat is Cross's family. He loves them very much.

Nana is the spitfire grandmother of Alex. Jannie is 14 going on 21. Damon is lovable and little Alex is adorable. I enjoyed being in the Cross home.

Lizzie Connolly, kidnapped victim, took the reader into her background. This made her more important, causing me to care about her even more. She had children and a husband. Didn't know if she'd live or die.

I enjoyed this story. The change of Cross going from a police officer to an FBI agent leveled up the series. I look forward to more of Agent Cross.

Not the best Cross book I’ve read, but overall was pretty good. Had some continued character development with Alex, which is always a good thing though. The cliffhanger does make me want to continue to see what happens next.

This was typical James Patterson. Short, snappy, and kind of flew along without much depth. But they are good books to pick up when your mind is busy and you just need something that doesn't require too much focus.

The one thing I really like about these books is Alex with his family. It is nice to see a positive, loving family dynamic and an involved, loving father.

This book is one of the strongest one in this series so far for me. I found it really good.
It ends in unresolved matters...so I of course have to start the next one! :D

Not one of the better Alex Cross books but still an enjoyable read.

This book focuses around Alex's first case since joining the FBI that has his new colleagues perplexed. Across the country, men and women are kidnapped in broad daylight and then disappear completely. These people are not being taken for ransom, Alex realises. They are being bought and sold. And it seems a predator known as The Wolf is the mastermind behind this terrible trade and is bringing a new reign of terror to organised crime.

The character development in this book is just amazing. James Patterson is fantastic at delivering and developing characters that makes readers connect and become part of the character's world. Alex goes through some personal matters in this one regarding joining the FBI and little Alex. Felt very sorry for Alex by the end. The only thing that let it down for me was that there was too many people that was supposedly the Wolf and then it turned out that they wasn't. Got annoyed and just wanted to know who it was haha. Just me being impatient.
Still a good read though.

In this book, there is an ex-Russian citizen living in America and taking over as a head of crime. He's killing off rivals and there is a sex slavery abduction ring going on and drawing major attention that has his name at the top. The problem is the Wolf is all he's known by, and he seems to be a ghost. I love Alex Cross and he is a genius. Things would go much worse if he wasn't using his talents to help the good guys. At the same time, I do always worry for his family. A lot. So, I'm not surprised by the Little Alex thing. At the same time, it was very painful, and I don't trust her either. Even though each Alex Cross book has a new situation he's solving everything is connected from book to book also so I can't wait to dig into the next one.

I just randomly picked a book from a shelf and this is what I got. The writing wasn't really beautiful or good, but the story line is really interesting. A good, quick read. The ending is quite interesting, too.

So, I have never read an Alex Cross novel before this one, and apparently there are like 30 of them. This was a reasonable jumping-in point for the series, although some aspects of Cross' home life were a bit glossed-over, presumably because most readers already know the character.

At the start of this story, Cross has been recruited to join the FBI after a career with the Washington DC PD, which apparently involved him solving a lot of high-profile cases at great personal risk to himself and his loved ones. Just regular fictional detective stuff.

I like Cross. He's easy to like. He's an intellectual, a family man, and somewhat realistic as hero-types go.

The villain, on the other hand... So the "big bad" here is The Wolf. He's the head of the Russian Mafiya, but for some reason, he does much of the dirty work himself, murdering with impunity. And, typically of a lot of badly written villains, we have to take the author's word for what a genius he is, because it doesn't come off as brilliant. More like reckless and incredibly lucky.

The Wolf is aided by the at time spectacular incompetence of the FBI, who can't see to ever keep any of The Wolf's associates alive long enough to testify once they are arrested.

There is also the issue of the crimes themselves, which are basically kidnappings of rich white women for sex slavery. The victims are mostly abducted from mall parking lots in those exact scenarios that the target audience was warned about in QANON-inspired facebook forwards.

This kidnappers are incompetent at what they do, the FBI is incompetent, the local police are nonexistent in the story, and Alex Cross is supposed to be the voice of reason in all of this, but he mostly goes around following other people's leads into botched or almost-botched arrests that provide the action sequences.

And, of course, nothing is really resolved, with a promised sequel (actually like 20 more, but I believe the unresolved stuff in this one might wrap up in the next book) on its way to continue the saga.

I'd enjoy reading more about Alex Cross. The subplots that were close to home were intriguing. Unfortunately, those weren't the main plot here.
