This book inspired so many words from my hands to blank pages. I LOVED it. The way that he twines his words together is so abstract and beautiful. You can take what he says literally or take from it what you will into your own interpretation.

One of my fave books.

Saul Williams has been called "Hip Hop's poet laureate", and "the Bob Marley of American poets". "She" is a humble collection of sensitive and self aware poetry marinated in emotional larceny.

I remember seeing Saul Williams in concert in Hamilton, Ontario.. woop woop... after reading this and obsessively listening to his CD's (I feel old) on repeat. One word, CHILLS!!! I'm a cold cold hearted person and I got chills. Amazing.

This was an excellent collection of poems by Williams that came with a CD of him reading the works. The interesting thing about this is that the work itself is inviting and strangely attractive, even though most of the pieces are thematically about people being torn apart emotionally. I will say that the beauty in Williams' work lies in his PERFORMANCE of his pieces, and it is refreshing that there is a CD of his work included. All of my prior experience with him has primarily been on performances I have watched on the internet and Def Poetry Jam. He is magnetic and interstellar with his language and use of his inflection in delivering his work. It is almost as though this, his words on paper published in a book, do not do the work itself justice because he is so overwhelmingly talented in every other aspect of his performances... It is a great book, though. I suggest, though, that the CD be digested, along with the book, and along with his pieces on YouTube. I look forward to seeing SLAM, which I have not seen yet.

Got this as a gift not too long after seeing the movie Slam which stars the author, Saul Williams. This book comes with a CD which definitely helps/aids with the enjoyment of SW's poetry. This book is worth checking out but that movie: a must see!

I think Saul Williams excels at spoken word. Encountering his words in text form creates a very different experience, but it is still rewarding and generally good. I feel The Dead Emcee Scrolls had a stronger sense of direction than She. That being said, there is something captivating about the fluid and associative relationship between these poems and prose interludes.

A wonderful writer and beat poetry reader. Warning: Not a book of poems for the light hearted. This book deals with some pretty dark stuff. I believe that his words move me to this day. I read this back in high school and honestly I find myself going back to it every now and then. The book with the CD is the best however to my dismay I lost the dang CD. But nonetheless I can recite every word of Gypsy Girl and it will probably always invoke a new sense of understanding every time I hear it.

Best modern poet in my opinion, and this is the best collection of his work.

First heard of Saul Williams while listening to Blacklicious "Blazing Arrow" album. His voice was so transcending, I had to know who he was. Then I read this book and realized why I wanted to be a poet when I was younger.

I am sort of sad to give this book only two stars because I really enjoy William's slam poetry. I feel like a lot of the power and beauty behind his art in the presentation, and when his work is presented in written word format it loses some of that power and beauty. If someone wanted to know about Saul Williams, i would probably recommend them Amethyst Rock Star rather than She.
