3.5 stars rounded up to four. Actually, it's more of a three star story for me, but I've been imbued with the Christmas spirit, and feel like bestowing the extra half star... Or is "instilled" the wanted word? Stand by...

Okay, it looks like either would work... maybe. It's a pity I was never inculcated with grammatical knowledge when I was in school. And what's the point of being infused with a thesaurus if all four of these fucking "I" words are wrong? Let me start over.

I got the Christmas spirit, God dammit, so I'm giving it an extra half star. I actually considered giving it one star for a nanosecond after I did some research on it, but that's for petty, political bullshit reasons that don't belong here. Still, since I did already type it out... I know. I'll put it under a It was originally published in The New York Times which is on my shit list, and the author was a super socialist who was "far to the left of the Democratic party," considered right wing Republicans "Jihadists," and thought the election of Donald Trump "the most appalling thing (he'd) seen in politics in (his) life." Fortunately for him, he died about half a year before he could witness Trump's reelection. tag. There, that's better.

This was neat, and all, but it didn't speak to me in that Christmasy way because it was more like a regular story with a Christmas section, but I could relate to that part. Going along with a dotty, old woman's fantasy to give her a little bit of pleasure is something I would do and actually have done, (though I wouldn't have stolen a camera). I'm a stickler for honesty with average Joes, but there's nothing wrong with indulging someone whose elevator might not go to the top floor anymore. I wouldn't go up to a paraplegic and bitch at them for not walking. The body is broken, and they can't walk. Using that logic, I don't see the point in correcting someone with dementia or its kin. The brain is broken, and they can't help a lot of the things they do. I know the old, blind woman probably didn't have dementia or anything like it, but she was very old, seemed to be lonely, and was probably rather disappointed with one of her relatives, so what's the harm in spending some time with her and giving her a happy memory? Add to all of this the fact that the whole yarn might've been a line of jive, and shit, what difference does it make? But still, there are people in the world who behave that way and they make the world a little more pleasant.

This is short, and you can read it online or listen to it on YouTube, so check it out.

M'encanta. Gràcies, Paul ❤️

2024: Avui has marxat, Paul. Quin homenatge millor que llegir-te?

Thirty years after its initial publication, this still stands as one of the greatest Christmas stories ever written, as well as one of the most powerful stories about storytelling -- and it's barely 3,000 words! "Auggie Wren's Christmas Story" teaches us that storytelling, like Christmas itself, is about a willingness to believe -- that it's very magic comes from active and conscious participation in an artifice.

Just like a Christmas gift, "Auggie Wren" is a joy to open every year; it can be read a thousand times, yet always yields pleasure and insight anew. But heed Auggie's advice and take your time reading it: "You'll never get it if you don't slow down."

Me esperaba más de Auster. Vuelve a haber un esceitor en busca de una historia, como en los otros 3 libros que he leído de él. Mi valoración es un: sin más.

I received this book as a gift from my sister when I was fifteen. I decided to read it again seven years later and I still love it :)
