This is one of the books that helped to start my love affair with reading. Reading it again almost 20 years later is like slipping on my most loved and comfiest sweat pants. That is truly one of the best feelings in the world! I was worried that the story would seem childish to me now that I’m older than it’s intended audience but if anything I fell more in love with it!

Scarier than I remembered (damn those monsters really ate little kids!)

But of course this is another Dahl classic. I guess I was charmed the most by The Queen's appearance in the story (Does The Queen know about this? Has she read "The BFG", did Wills and Harry read it as kids- like we all did- and think, "Hey, that's Gran!"? -All good questions.)

I also liked the part at the Castle when they had to make a really big table, chair, plate, ect... so the BFG could have breakfast with them, this was the stuff I just loved as a kid.

A little orphan girl, Sophie, looks out the window one dark night and sees a mysterious shadow peeking into bedroom windows. It's the Big Friendly Giant, the BFG! He whisks Sophie away to the land of the giants, and reveals his marvelous dream collection. But other giants are not so friendly, and Sophie and the BFG must devise a plan to stop the other giants from eating humans.

I love this story! It's imaginative and fun. The language is hilarious and delightful. The BFG is dorky and silly and adorable. Sophie is brave and kind and intelligent. There are so many little details about the BFG that make this a truly interesting story; like the snozzcumbers that taste so disgusting, and the way he captures dreams, and his funny way of talking. All those things are so unique and wild and winsome.

There is nothing quite like Roald Dahl's writing style. He has such a felicitous way with words that brings delight to the reader. His writing style is just so charming, and it weaves a magic web of enchantment that sweeps the reader into his crazy imagination.
