I was very disappointed with this read. I was hoping it would have some quick and easy tips I could implement immediately, but most of it was either story-telling of the author's experience or general financial advice I have already read about/been told about. The main thrust of the book was "learn how to communicate with your partner about finances." Which was really more about preventing unnecessary spending than documenting creative ways to save money. The 401(k), mortgage, healthcare, and tax information was also clearly outdated.

For an educated couple that has strong communication skills, this book doesn't offer anything they couldn't figure out for themselves.

Not that I want to be rich, but I do want a financially secure household. This book has great tips for saving, retirement, and debt repayment. The author also has a book called "Smart women finish rich" which is also a worthwhile read.

This is a very good book for the newly married. Us old married folks won't get as much out of it, but it was worth a quick read. Lot's of topics that are redundant topics through all Personal Finance books, but as always, Bach writes them in an easy to read manner with a slightly different perspective. Bach is a financial counselor, so it's a pretty good bet that his advice is solid.

If you're a newlywed, it's worth the pickup.

A family friend/financial advisor recommended that we read this as we venture forth into this world of married life. The first half of the book seemed pretty reasonable and common-sensical. I was pleased to read that I had already taken a few things into consideration/put things into action (including my ever-more-ridiculous income-and-expenses spreadsheet). The second half of the book had my head spinning because it dealt with investments, insurance, taxes, and a ton of stuff that I have no knowledge of whatsoever. Moral of the story: I have a lot of learning to do in terms of making my money make money.

I liked this book and I think it is a great read for married or engaged couples to read through. If you feel like you know a lot about personal finance then you are probably not going to learn a lot new in this book. However, if your significant other isn't very familiar with personal finance this is a great book that will allow you to have all those conversations and set all those goals together.

This book has some good, basic information on financial planning. But it really needs to be updated.

Part couples therapy and part finance class, this book is an easy read full of concrete steps to take to rectify your money issues as a couple. There are lots of exercises and worksheets to help with planning and aligning your spending with your core values. My only complaint is that some of the advice seems a bit dated now given the age of the book, but most of it is timeless and holds up really well despite the decade that has passed since publication.

It gave some good solid advice on how to cut some expenses and invest the saved money, but I don't think it's the best route to take

There are some important steps in this book to obtaining wealth. I think the book does a good job and talks about your values and what is important to you before getting into the weeds of money and getting rich. The content here is a bit repetitive if you've read his other book, The Automatic Millionaire. Also, some of the information is a bit dated now, so hard to relate to issues that we're facing today vs. back when this book was written.

Overall, good book to get you and your spouse on board to being rich!

Excellent way to begin setting up good financial habits to carry you through your financial future, through better and worse. Every couple should read this and identify what they are aiming to get out of this thing we call life.
