Love these books. I will stop with this one because I don't want to have them spoiled.

I stumbled on to 'When The Lion Feeds' and I was hooked! The storytelling here is outstanding.
Continued onward with 'The Sound of Thunder' where I struggled a bit with some parts. All in all a very good book again and I read the 'A Sparrow Falls' with renewed and restored appetite for Mr Smiths story about The Courtney family.

Not disappointed at all! :) There are parts in this book that had me rooting for developments that, I can imagine, would made a shrink want to see me on a regular basis!
I got so involved with the characters that they followed me into my dreams - that, I think, is as good a review as any!

interesting and unfamiliar to me setting; but the story features characters with unnatural advantages which is less interesting to me

Another great book by Wilbur Smith. One of the sadest ones but still excellent.

This is book 3 in Smith's Courtney series. As is typical of the author, this one is set in Africa and contains many, many elements including murder, war, romance, revenge, betrayal, and ultimately makes all of them work in this entertaining story. Highly recommended.

It's been many years since I Last read a Wilbur Smith Novel
This is still only my second! I Can't remember what the first
one was, But I do remember not enjoying it. So it was with a lot
of doubt I approached this one. Maybe the 30 odd years that have passed
helped me understand the vivid Picture Wilbur Smith paints a lot better
But I'd like to think it's the way the story flowed! Fast paced & always so
well written, If you're a Wilbur Smith Fan, you'll Know, If like me you might
need a bit of prompting, then go for it! you will not be disappointed. Storytelling
of a very high magnitude.

4,5.

I loved the imagery and the details of historical events as they happed to the characters. I was torn between rating the book a 3 or 4. A more accurate score from my perspective is 3.75. I have enjoyed a few books in the Courtney saga, and feel confident that each time the author weaves a story it gets better.

Trzyma wysoki poziom poprzednich tomów - uczy historii, pokazuje piękno Afryki i zagląda w dusze ludziom. Smitha czyta się fenomenalnie.

Mark Anders returns to Natal to find that his grandfather is dead and the Andersland property was being developed for sugar cane. In trying to investigate what happened to his grandfather Mark went to Chaka's Gate, was almost killed and ended up reuniting with Sean Courtney (whom he knew while a soldier during WWI). Mark fell in love with Storm Courtney (Sean's daughter). Final....Dirk Courtney (Sean's black sheep son) was behind the killing and he also wanted to develop Chaka's Gate. Dirk killed his father and step-mother, almost killed Mark and ended up falling from a cliff and dying.

Following on from Sound of Thunder we follow the Courtney family as they fight their way through the First World War but this time we focus on Mark Anders, the son that Sean Courtney never had but always wanted. As the fighting comes to end, Mark returns home to find that other members of the Courtney family have destroyed everything he loves, triggering his quest for revenge that leads to his falling in love with the (rather spoilt) Storm Courtney and places himself in the middle of the South African workers war that leads to the country being turned on its head. As ever, Smith weaves a superb tale with lots of twists and turns and more near death experiences than I can count, not to mention some seriously twisted family dynamics, the reading of Sean's Last Will and Testament still sticks in my mind, and sets things up beautifully for the next generation of the Courtney family.

True African adventure. Wilbur started When A Lion Feeds as a short story and it grew into a novel and then into a series of novels. I can see why! When a Lion Feeds and The Sound of Thunder are two awesome action filled African Adventure tales that leave you wanting more which led me to read A Sparrow Falls also by Wilbur Smith. An interesting note is that Stephen King used to read these wonderful African Adventure Tales by Wilbur Smith to his children around the fireplace every night before bedtime up in his gothic mansion in Bangor Maine. Although, these days he lives in Sarasota Florida. I thought that it was kind of cool that Stev also loves Wilbur Smith's books as much as I do.
