after jack assembled his crew the set off with the intention of not coming back until there tasks were complete. jack sparrow is a good book because they is so many plot twist and you will never get bored i admire how out going and venturous he was i advise to to read it because it has a good story line it will have you staying up all night.
This is a good fun short book and an easy read, I enjoyed it, I'm a huge pirates and pirates of the Caribbean nerd so this book was right up my alley and I'm definitely gonna keep reading the series cause I love young Jack
I picked this book up for the kids and wanted to read it first. It was a very adventurous story of Jack Sparrow and some friends he meets along the way and their journey to find treasure. This is the first of a series and I do believe the kids will love it. I would recommend it to not only kids but anyone who loves Pirates of the Caribbean, Sailing the High Seas, Finding Lost Treasure, Skeleton Kings and Lots of Magic.
(I started reading this series at the height of my PotC obsession. As a middle schooler entering high school I loved these books, but I only made it 4 books in before I graduated high school and forgot all about them. I’m almost 30 now, and I picked them back up for old time’s sake.)
They hold up! The Coming Storm in particular is a great intro into the series. It’s a fun way to jump back into that universe after having binged all the films (at least the holy trinity. The last two are somewhat regrettable)
Rob Kidd does a great job of capturing a younger Jack Sparrow. He really hits those physical and verbal mannerisms on the nose. The side characters are surprisingly engaging as well. It seems that each book expands on a new legend or myth that takes place in the titular setting. The villain in this first book is super interesting. I didn’t expect our heroes to encounter such a unique and intriguing foe right off the bat. Without spoiling anything, I have to say that I definitely got my supernatural pirate fix. His character seems just as exciting and unique (though maybe not quite as deep) as that of the notorious Davy Jones.
Obviously the books are an incredibly easy read (took me two hours), and I can’t wait to read them with my future children. I made sure to collect the entire set. Reading them now is nostalgic, like I’m a kid delving into a fun comic series.
The Coming Storm is a quick read, and fun. As a self-appointed Captain Jack Sparrow expert and enthusiast, I'm rather picky about folks getting him right. Rob Kidd does an admirable job here, capturing Captain Jack's voice and mannerisms so well that I actually pictured a 21 Jump Street-era Johnny Depp acting them out. The book is very clearly part of a series, and while it could stand alone, there's no reason you'd want it to. It has its own arc and ties in with a larger storyline as well. The book "sets up" familiar characters from the movies, including both Tia Dalma and Davy Jones. Jack's desire early on seems to be to rid the world of pirates, or so he tells his crew, and I'm interested to see if the other books explain his apparent distaste for his future profession.
Yyyaayyy! I finished my first book for school. I'm surprisingly proud of myself for reading this in Spanish and actually understanding it. I like Jack and Fitzwilliam together and how Fitzwilliam's nickname is Fitzy.
This is the first book in a new series for young readers about the teenage years of Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, when he first became a pirate and went off in search of treasure.
Teenage Arabella lives a dreary life in Tortuga. Her mother was kidnapped by pirates, her father is always drinking, and she spends her days working in her father's tavern. The only bright spot in serving drinks to the pirates is that she can listen to their stories of adventure and treasure hunting. One day, a young man her age stumbles into the tavern -- and gets into a lot of trouble when he steals from an infamous pirate. Arabella rescues the young man, who introduces himself to her as Jack Sparrow. Jack is a young stowaway who dreams of having his own ship and searching for treasure. To get away from her miserable life Arabella agrees to help him. They take an abandoned ship, the Barnacle, and with the help of Fitzwilliam, a spoiled young Englishman in search of adventure, leave Tortuga to sail the Caribbean in search of the "Sword of Cortes," which promises wealth and power to whoever finds it.
I was a little skeptical when I started reading this book of how well a children's book writer would do at writing a young Jack Sparrow. I am pleased to say I thought the writer did a pretty good job at writing his character and dialogue. The other members of the "crew" were likeable characters as well. The book is rather short, even for the reading level it's written for, but it was still pretty enjoyable. Young readers who enjoyed the Pirates of the Caribbean films are sure to enjoy this book, but I think older fans looking for a fun adventure could enjoy this book as well. I look forward to reading future books in this series and seeing what adventures young Jack and his crew run into next.
This swashbuckling little tale is a humorous, fun read logging teenage Jack Sparrow's first adventure as a captain of an abandoned fishing-vessel The Barnacle and a crew of rambunctious characters such as Arabella the fiery Irish barmaid, "Fitzy" a wealthy nobleman runaway, Tumen a foreign-tongued native, Jean a thirteen year old merchant sailor and Constance who is apparently Jean's sister cursed into the form of a mangy cat.
"The Coming Storm" reads like a delightful fanfiction targeted at young readers rather than actual Pirates of the Caribean cannon, but there is a genuine effort by the author to tell an exciting story featuring a youthful Jack Sparrow and his ever-savvy wit. In this book you'll read about drunken tavern brawls, sword fighting duels, deserted islands, dead cities of bones, cursed pirates and, of course, plenty of legendary treasure. You even discover how Jack came upon his fabulous hat.
Although I'm not the target demographic (I'm a 22 year old female) I enjoyed this quick, adventurous tale even if it is a little fanfiction-esque and caters to a much younger reading level. The story itself occasionally uses some rather eloquent narration, the dialogue is witty, the characters are interesting and diverse and I love me a good pirate fic. I give this first installment of the Jack Sparrow series a 3.5/5 and will certainly be picking up the next issue when I'm looking for a little yo-ho-ho to go with me bottle of rum.
Kirjan alku oli todella vauhdikas Pirates of the Caribbean tyyliin ja vauhti pysyi päällä läpi kirjan. Vauhtia ja vaarallisia tilanteita riittikin kyllä oikein hengästymiseen asti! Pidin kirjasta todella paljon! :D
Tämä on kirja kaikille seikkailijoille ja Pirates of the Caribbean faneille! Ja kirsikkana kakun päällä: Tässä ensimmäisessä osassa selviää, kuinka Sparrow saikaan kuuluisan kapteenin hattunsa!
Suosittelisin tätä noin 3-6 -luokkalaisille. Tässä oli joitakin aika jänniäkin kohtia, joten ihan nuorimmille lukijoille suosittelisin siksi hyvin varauksella.
