Got this as part of an audible deal after seeing surprisingly good reviews of it both here and on audible. Not a brilliant piece of literature, but fun listening ear candy for sure and well done for what it is. I forgot how much the story tries to hit you over the head with its political message, which feels both very dated to the early 2000's and also more than a little bit eye roll worthy. But that, if I recall was pretty true in the movie and the graphic novel as well, so you can't really fault the book for it.

Outstanding! This is a novel based on (or a novelization of) a movie. The movie is based on a graphic novel (high quality comic book). I have listened to the audiobook of "V" a couple of times. I saw the movie first, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and it enticed me to read (listen to) the novel. I was not disappointed. Now I want to watch the movie again as I've read that the book follows the movie dialogue closely. That is fine, but this novel is not an after-the-fact description of a movie. It includes that but is so much more. Like many novels written before a movie it gets into the heads of the characters, describing their thoughts and internal conversations. The book gets philosophical about the events occurring. It has depth of meaning. IMO it's as good as if it was written before the movie. Story-wise both the book and movie are a great near-term futuristic, collapse of democracy, extreme totalitarianism reigns plot. I highly recommend them. Read other reviews for more story-line to pique your curiosity.

crafting audio - seems as if this is more well known as a film. I'll see a little later on if I like it enough to search for the film.

Brilliant stuff if one delves in via this 'rare' audio of the novelisation...I managed to track down the film , hahahaha John Hurt, Stephen Fry and that young waif who played the princess in those later star wars films. The whole concept is fandabidozzie.

This was the first (and so far, only) graphic novel I've read. I read it after having seen the movie, which I liked greatly.

The book was another story, though. I found the illustrations quite unhelpful -- some of the characters I couldn't really tell apart by looking at them. I don't know if it's expected that you give great study to each panel just to be sure who's in it. Had I not been familiar with the basic plot from the movie, I probably wouldn't have followed much of it.

Basically, even discounting that I preferred the movie's storyline to the book's, I'd have to say that the pictures were not worth a thousand words each. I think I'll stick to novels with words.

Enjoyed the world building, and the characters... Though I was losing "suspension of disbelief" around halfway through... And seriously disappointed in the ending.

I had watched the movie, and I had purchased the novelization based off the movie. The book does a very good job of explaining some of the concepts that were briefly shown in the movie. Some of the characters thoughts and background were also explained and made clear. Because of the clarity of the examples in the amazing descriptions I understood those things in the movie that I’d not understood before and quite frankly it blew my mind. Eloquently stated, beautifully told-a must read. 5 stars.

NOTE: I have not read the graphic novel on which both the movie and the novel were based. I have ordered the graphic novel and I did enjoy watchmen also by Alan Moore.

The prelude to this tale, written several years after publication, plants the nightmarish backdrop for this graphic novel in terrifyingly real and tangible terms (most glaringly, arch-conservative Margaret Thatcher's declaration that homosexuality will be relegated to the dustbin of history, even as a concept). Similar terrifying and oppressive parallels can be seen in the more virulent and extreme fundamentalist nations and movements that seek to impose Shariah law on secular democracies. The echoes of the Christian Taliban can also be clearly seen between the images.

Split into three books, V for Vendetta begins after a nuclear war has ravaged most of Europe. Although England "prevails," she is a mere shadow of her vibrant self, with a despotic regime stifling all dissent and making privacy impossible. Police are given sweeping powers and discretion to keep things under control. It is in this society that we meet 15-year-old Eva, forced into prostitution to survive. Rescued by the terrorist known only as V, she learns about the music and culture destroyed by the new rulers, rescued and preserved in the Shadow Gallery. With rip-roaring action, psychological terror and chills, this story is one for the generations to pass down. There are a few flaws that made portions of the comic a chore to read, most notably the forced accents of some characters. Not only did this pull me out of the book's illusion, but it made the experience considerably less enjoyable.

Book two focuses on the consequences of an iron curtain that attempts to police thoughtcrime, and how even the most secure dictator will never receive true adoration or respect. The conclusion is among the most gripping I have ever encountered in a comic, and is well worth the effort (the mask is fun too).

Action packed. Dystopian. Dark. This book was right up my street. I found it very close to the film and I really enjoyed that too (upon looking into it this is no surprise, the book was based on the screenplay). It's a short book so I got through it in no time. As I already knew what the story was about, I read it at the perfect time - starting on bonfire night as this is central to the story and that really added to the magic.

There's something so unique and special about this book. Nothing is lost in its brevity. V is such an interesting thoroughly developed concept of a character. Unpredictable and unhinged, but also exactly what that world needed, a beacon of hope in a lost society. I loved the theatre and extravagance of his role in this book.

It's deep and political, but dealt with in a fascinating way so that you never get bored. The only thing I would say is that there could have been more detail, more perspectives and an epilogue detailing the aftermath. Was the regime actually brought to it's knees? What came next for Evey and the UK? The ending was left open to the reader and I guess that's both a gift and a curse.

I loved the message in this book, and the political standpoint. I would give it five stars, but I was not very keen on the illustrations. It can be hard to distinguish many of the characters, but besides that, I absolutely love this book. I especially enjoyed the main character V, he was whimsical and smart about the demonstrations he made to prove his point. I enjoyed this book tremendously, more so than any other graphic novels I have read.

I wasn't expecting much from a film novelisation of a film based on a graphic novel but this wasn't disappointing. If you like the film you will like the book which expands on some key parts of the story that the movie dis not. If you are a fan of the floral hoc novel you may not necessarily appreciate the adaptation in this and film, but I do believe it is a reasonable interpretation that being relevancy to the political and social issues of today just as the graphic novel did in the early 80's

One of the few books I did not get the opportunity to read before the movie came out, I was so excited to read this book! I waited anxiously for it to come in the mail.

When I started reading, I instantly found myself playing pieces from the movie in my head (one of the reasons I generally tend to avoid movies based on books), yet I pushed on. Then, oh then, surprise! There is so much more to this story than the movie shows us! I loved meeting the characters who played a part in the way that V behaves. I loved learning more and more about who he was behind that perpetually smiling mask.

V for Vendetta is one of those books that makes you think about your life. After I read this, I again felt the same thing I felt after I saw the movie. I wanted to act! I wanted to protest something...anything! If a book can make me feel that way, I am sold!

I truly loved this book! It yet again proves to me why books are so much better than their movie counterparts.
